Do you think we live in a society where $80 at a Mexican Restaurant is a good deal?

Me and Mom got into a kinda argurment she saying that everyone in her life talks on the same level, same playing field, despite higher income disparity. She lives in a nice over 55 community. Dont have to be retired. Some are some arent. Thatís a narrow, bubble view imo. She begs to differ. She thinks everyone in all of society talks on same level no matter what. How is that remotely accurate? So, is she nuts? I think very narrorow-minded is all and sheltered in her world. I donít think the real world is like that at all. She doesnít venture out too much her comfort zone too often. She thought $80 for a Mexican meal was outrageous. This is normal. Good even. We didnít have any alcoholic drinks, despite my pleas.

Narrorminded or what? You decide...

I think you should stop trying to get your mother to drink and hang out with the riffraff.

Of course we don't.

And $80 for Mexican food seems too damn expensive.

Your mom is right...$80 is outrageous for a Mexican meal. The problem is that you are too lavishly.

That’s a bargain when I go out around here (Hudson Valley, NY). Also includes slightly more than 20% gratuity...

Are they handing you a secret menu or something? That’s like $30 a plate!

My wife and I regularly eat Mexican food out for dinner and I don't think we've once spent more than $30 combined including tip.

Describe what authentic is and I will tell you if it's the real deal or not.

I think your mother probably has a narrow view of society.

For example, does she treat the busboy who doesn't speak English the same way as she treats the nice older couple at the next table? I don't, and I'm careful to treat people in service positions with courtesy and respect.

Here Mexican food costs $14 per person with soda and a tip.

No. Take her to a Chucky Cheese and let her wipe for humanity.

But she is right about $80 for Mexican unless itís for less then four people.

$80? That's like Cantina Laredo prices with triple Mexican Apple Pies for dessert.

But no, while I think we should to some extent, we definitely do not.

You paid $80 for a Mexican meal and think that is fine.

re: Do you think we live in a society where $80 at a Mexican Restaurant is a good deal?

Best Mexican food I've had was super cheap--less than $10/pp with chips and a drink. It's all about location, though. Hubby and I spent sometimes $150+ on Mexican food for 2 in Manhattan. We lingered and drank too much--$15+ per Margarita killed the deal.

I agree with Nick about how people treat each other because I've seen it. I was a poor single mom for about a decade after my divorce. Strangers, the school system, sometimes even my own siblings treated me differently than they do now that I have my act a little better together.
