When was the last time you had to write a check?

I wrote a check today for the first time this year. I found the process very slow, complicated, and lacking beeps or notifications rewarding me at the end of the process.

I hated it.

Re: When was the last time you had to write a check?

We write a check each month for the water bill because they charge a fairly substantial fee to pay it online.

Re: When was the last time you had to write a check?

I "write" one every month to my landlord, by which I mean I log into my bank account online, and set up a payment from me to him. The bank then mails a physical check to him on the date that I specify he should receive it.

I still do.

Write one for the down payment on new car that I bought 2 weeks ago, the pool guy and I just paid my accountant for doing my taxes.

Re: When was the last time you had to write a check?

I write several checks monthly to pay bills because they either charge a rather largish fee for me to use my CC, or I don't feel like linking them with my bank account (they don't need to be in my bank account thankyouverymuch).

Re: When was the last time you had to write a check?

Been a few years at least since I've had to physically send one for a bill. I honestly don't know if I've ever written a check to buy something.

A woman in front of me at the grocery store paid with one recently. It looked like the register printed it out for her...from what I could tell, she handed a blank check to the cashier who ran it through the register to print.

Can't remember last time I wrote a physical check. It's been years.

Re: When was the last time you had to write a check?

I still write checks. Last year I had to pay state taxes and wrote a check. The state charges $25 for electronic filing. Screw that.

I pay my massage therapist by check because she would rather deposit a check than pay the service charge to Square.

I bought Canadian Viagra last Fall. The online pharmacy only accepted checks and money orders.

Re: When was the last time you had to write a check?

I will write one today for my rent and every few months I write one to Security Life Of Denver for my life insurance. Otherwise, I do try to pay everything on-line or using a bank account link to autopay.

This, but for me it's every three months.

Re: When was the last time you had to write a check?

My kid's daycare wants a check for everything that isn't tuition (direct deposit). It's annoying as hell.

Plus, usually contractors want to be paid by check, so I write a few of those each year for that reason alone.

I always pay cash for my massages.

I don't want the police finding a check with my name on it during a raid.

My last one was four years ago. That was when the last of my bills finally went to online billing.

Re: When was the last time you had to write a check?

If there's an instance where a check or money order is mandatory, I go the money order route. Otherwise, it's e-banking or cash.

Re: When was the last time you had to write a check?

For years, pretty much my only check writing has been for my church. They have online ways now, but I prefer having the carbons for record keeping/taxes.

Re: When was the last time you had to write a check?

When I use online bill pay to pay a bill for someone who is not registered to receive ACH payments from my bank, my bank creates and mails a printed check (at not cost to me, thank you USAA). Actually filling out a check by pen? I feel like there was some reason I had to write on last year for some reason but I don't remember why. Before that, it had been a few years.

We've never had sex. One of her boyfriends is an A-list sessions drummer. He can maintain three different rhythms at once. I can't compete with that.

Re: When was the last time you had to write a check?

I write checks all the time at work, as unfortunately a lot of companies in our industry are old fashioned. I really wish I could just electronically pay everything, writing checks and overnighting them by FedEx all the time is kind of a drag.

I use online bill pay for anything that can't be paid with my debit card. I haven't had a checkbook in almost a decade.

Re: When was the last time you had to write a check?

I had to write one a few months ago and mail it to a friend. I can't remember why, but since we don't get together often, it was better than waiting who knows how long before I could give him cash. As it turns out they never received the check, so the next time I saw him I ended up paying in cash anyway.

Before that, probably several years ago, back before my apt. complex set up auto pay.

Re: When was the last time you had to write a check?

Of course I still write checks, not many, but 2-3 each month. Things like property tax, IRS taxes, larger amounts like car purchases, etc always get paid by a written check. This is to create an intentional paper trail, and also to make sure that I'm not accidently 'overcharged' by some "automatic" method. Still don't trust billpay online, especially by the rapacious, evil SoCal Edison, so I go out of my way to pay that monthly bill by check. Once someone has your money and there is an 'accidental' overpayment, it's very hard to get that money back. With a paper check, I can write the exact amount, down to the penny, that is owed, and be sure that no more will be 'accidently' paid.

Otherwise, I've eliminated all other "monthly pay" things. That's how other people get rich off of you. Residual, guaranteed income coming in to them, each and every month, without fail.
