Yeah, I'm sure because of the blockhead thing they're also not paying for facial likeness licensing. Just surprising how many of them there are.

Yeah, that's the beauty of it, they don't have to pay for any likeness rights, just character rights. If they were making figures with accurate head sculpts they could never afford to pay for all the extra rights involved (nor for all the sculptors involved). I guess that's why they can pump so many of these out for cheap.

Re: What is the appeal of Funko Pop

I don't particularly care for them myself, but they are basically what did beanie babies were in the 1990s. The market will eventually fall out of miza says way-o for saturation on him at this point. And when that happens these pops will be pretty much worthless or in the dollar store. They are however doing a better job than the beanie babies at adding additional product lines to their mix it with one product line goes bust the other ones may be able to take their place. I would expect at some point they will be making movies with the Funko look to them on the characters similar to what the Lego movies are doing with license characters.

Re: What is the appeal of Funko Pop

My son collects certain ones.

I have a Pennywise from IT. I've been doing PennywiseCrimes with it in the vain of Elf on a Shelf....but not so cute. He's been found on the floor with a mirror, straw, razor and white stuff....my son laid on my hood while Pennywise was taped to look like he was the driver, etc

I have a Jack Torrance and an Alex DeLarge on my desk at work... Cause, you know, Kubrick. I like em' but I have no desire to collect 1000 of the things. That Funko Pop thread over at blu-ray dot com is crazy.

I’ve got Tom Servo and Crow from MST3K, as well as the Tom Serv-Crow Kickstarter exclusive.

Scrooge McDuck

Beefsquatch from Bob’s Burgers

Black outfit Daredevil from the Netflix series.

My kids have a few, from a family friend who was getting rid of her collection.

I have a few (Mulder & Scully and I want to say BB8). I'd love to get Scrooge, the nephews, Webby and Launchpad but $10 is too high for these things. $5 is about right.

Re: What is the appeal of Funko Pop

I don't think they'll crash quite like beanie babies or pogs, if only because of the pop culture references that drive them, but they definitely will wane in popularity eventually, because like everything else there's a breaking point in every geek's life where there just is no more shelf space.

I mean for stuff like Scrooge and the nephews, the Disney Afternoon mystery minis are cuter to me (and take up less space), but again, blind boxes are the devil and I don't want to get like five Monterey Jack's looking for the last duck triplet.

You need to read more pop culture web sites.

Yeah, for example the Godzilla Ty beanies still get decent money but that's because it's Godzilla collectors looking for them, not Ty collectors.

And thatís what keeps me from collecting these. They look far too similar to each other and far too different from the actual characters theyíre based on. I have no interest in some slightly creepy looking block headed figures.

Ive got my share of weird things that I collect so Iím not judging. Theyíre just not for me.

How bad is it that he first thing that came to mind when you said this was a demogorgon funko pop from Stranger Things? (pretty bad...)

Is that why none of our new trolls have been banned yet?
