Re: Do you still enjoy your birthday?

I wouldn't celebrate new years either if it weren't for my kids. The most pointless of all holidays.

Re: Do you still enjoy your birthday?

Birthdays are just a reminder that I'm another year closer to death.
Yeah but at least you made it and if you are healthy that is better.

I had a friend who died on Sat and I bet he would have loved to have another birthday and see his wife and daughter again.

Re: Do you still enjoy your birthday?

My dad died on my birthday in 2011. Ruined birthdays for me completely.

Way to go dad!

For a long time they didn't matter anymore to me but having younger kids now has changed that again. They always get so excited to give presents, sing happy birthday and eat cake so it always brings a smile to my face.

My mom would do that to me out of spite.

Seriously, though, what was that like that day and the first year after?

First year after certainly was the toughest. After that it was fine, as far as birthdays go.

I can't really complain since was dad was 50 when I was born and lived to be 92.

Speaking of moms...It was my mom that would always remind me on my birthdays about what else happened on that day.

Don't get me wrong, I definitely appreciate still being here and all, but I don't need a big to-do over it.
Mine is Dec. 24th. We go out to dinner with family every year. Of course the place changes yearly as the places that are open changes year to year.

Then somewhere in there friends an I get together to hang out one Sat night in Dec.

Re: Do you still enjoy your birthday?

I still like celebrating my birthday, but since I hit 30 two years ago, the level of celebration has decreased dramatically. In my 20's, I'd gather up a large group of friends and we'd go out to dinner and then go barhopping. Ended at a strip club a few times. Always crashed at a friend's place since of course I was obliterated.

Last two years I've had much smaller gatherings at my place, usually to watch a Fight Card. Place clears out at midnight. It does feel like it won't be too much longer until my birthdays come along and I just shrug my shoulders and go about my day.

I'll be 37 in May and have no life. You figure out what my answer was.

Re: Do you still enjoy your birthday?

The only joy in my life is seeing my birthday greeting at the bottom of the homepage. Oh look! There it is!

I just looked at the DVDTalk home page and they no longer list members' birthdays. I guess I have no joy in my life.

Every time I see that user name I wonder how much he regrets it. So many jokes at his expense.

Re: Do you still enjoy your birthday?

I still enjoy them, even though the weather usually sucks in January. There's an annual beer festival that always falls the weekend before or after mine, and a friend treats me to that as a present.

I actually took it from a dive computer manual. It was in large bold type and reminded me of Max Headroom. I've had people read my posts for years tell me they were surprised the name has to do with Scuba.
