Should I go to a Singles Mixer?

Okay, so I decided to get on this local singles facebook group page here in town, because I saw one of my gym friends knew the guy who runs the group. I've been a part of the group since the beginning of this year, and have been pretty active in the discussions on facebook, its a lot of sarcastic back and forth online chatting. I had one woman reach out through messenger to me asking if I was going to one of the mixers, she said she was asking about me for a friend, than I replied asking if this message was some kind of joke wondering if it was even real. I have had a few of them send friend requests , but I don't let strangers on my facebook page. Well there is another mixer/networking event tomorrow. I have thought about going, I don't know what I would do if any women would want to talk to me, but thought you never know who you might meet in terms of networking and still trying to get back to work. Am I ready to dip my toe into the blue pill world?

Re: Should I go to a Singles Mixer?

I'm not going there thinking about a date, just more for making friends. Or is this a jumping point for starting a dating thread. I'm still unemployed, I have to have the right job that gives me good SMV to get laid.

The best SMV is not using phrases like SMV.

You should go. If a girl wants to talk, talk to her.

Otters only go to mixers at bath houses.

It stands for Sexual Marketplace Value, I know the term from reddit.

Don't go. There might be women there. They don't even BREATHE like normal humans do. In lieu of legitimate pulmonary activity, they secrete a viscous, ammonia-like substance from their rectums. NO MA'AM.

Nah, just stay home and chat with us for days/months on end. Way more fulfilling than say, being close to an actual woman.

Re: Should I go to a Singles Mixer?

I got one Facebook message from a woman who asked me out for drinks, I ignored it because she looked like some weirdo cosplayer looking for a Renaissance Fair.

Ignore the FB stuff and see who you meet in person.

If I didn't know what it meant, I wouldn't have told you not to say it.

Sure, go. Just don't do the thing where you hit on 30 women in a row.

Re: Should I go to a Singles Mixer?

Seriously, yes you should go. Forget all the bullshit you read on the internet. Forget all the bullshit we all spew on here (including yourself). Just go, clear your mind have a drink, and relax. Don’t put any stress or expectations on yourself.

Now, the obligatory ... could this be the start of a 2018 TOTY?

TOTY! TOTY! TOTY!

She could be your emotional support girl. Just stay away from Spirit Airlines...

Should have been a poll, but you'd probably have lost that too.

Sonic's reply really should have been the end of the thread.

But go, maybe workout before hand, set a goal to talk to at least one person.

Report back!

Re: Should I go to a Singles Mixer?

Pics or it didn’t happen. Good luck with the event...I should look into this type of event. It sounds less stressful than using a site like eharmony or even speed dating. It also sounds like you get an opportunity to speak with a whole bunch of folks who are inclined to connect with you without making it hit on a random woman in a bar/club difficult to get a date with them.

Seriously Bluelite, you seem like a decent enough bloke and no odder/neurotic than some of us goofball DVD Talkers so I give you props for stepping up and realizing this event could be good for you...it takes courage to tell yourself that you will attend the event.

Again, best of luck!!

Was she at least good looking? Some of those cosplayer chicks are hot.

Sure, although you should probably work on dropping your ridiculous attitude about men and women first.

No, She looked like she belonged at a Renaissance Fair, tall, but she had some purple hair, jacked up teeth, heavy, and not attractive at all.
