Re: Should I go to a Singles Mixer?

I actually had dinner with a former coworker from Amazon a couple of weeks ago. It was about a job opening she knew about at the car dealership where she works. She's a friend and it was great to talk to her again, but the job wasn't something I was interested in.

You need to work at the skill.
No, no. They are still creeped out. They just can smile about it now. Mainly because Mrs. D pays them to.

Yes, practicing a skill is good advice in this realm. You would probably be surprised by the number of people who see to be extroverts but are actually introverts. They force themselves to step outside that comfort zone and can even overcompensate. Try doing that in small doses in scenarios with nothing at stake.

Iím curious to hear other Ottersí thoughts on the speed dating event. My initial thought was that it would be more stressful than this mixer. However the fact that each encounter has a specific amount of time and then ends may actually be helpful in reducing your stress. It is basically what I talked about above (small doses of no-expectation encounters).

Re: Should I go to a Singles Mixer?

I started on Page 1 of this thread and read every post until the end. And then you decided not to go?!?!?!? What a let down! What a rip-off! I want my money back!

(I could have spent those precious minutes jerking off!)

Wait a minute. You turned down pussy for chili beans and a movie?

That app, Meetup, also isn't bad if you just want to get the hell out with others once in a while.

Missed the mark ...

“I don’t always get pussy, but when I do ...

... I prefer chilli and a movie.

Stay neurotic, my friends.”

So ... you just Netflixed and chilled yourself. Right?

Have you considered taking up a hobby, like train watching or civil war re-enactment? It will get you out of the house and you'll get to meet old men.

WTF? Your soul mate could have been at that mixer, man.

Or some really great thread fodder.

This thread has zero payoff.

Re: Should I go to a Singles Mixer?

I'm working on it, I might go to a speed dating event in March. I have a couple of companies I'm waiting to hear back from in my job search. I have to have a good Job that gives me good SMV to work on trying to get laid.

Re: Should I go to a Singles Mixer?

Is that your ultimate goal in all of this? To get laid? Nothing bigger than that?

I just want to be sure because earlier in the thread it felt like you have overall challenge with women and relationships and looking to make things better in your life but if you're just looking to get laid that tells the rest of us how much to invest in this thread. Can you please clarify?

Re: Should I go to a Singles Mixer?

I didnít bump this thread someone else did. That last comment could be considered a joke. I know that unless you have a decent job, Iím nothing more white trash to any decent woman that fits what I have wanted in a girlfriend.

You're right, it's going to be a tough sell if you're not employed or seeking a job. Every once in a while you write something that makes it seem like sex is the end goal and for a second there I thought you'd regressed. Glad to hear you're joking.

So why would that singles mixer be unsafe for you? What would make you feel unsafe there?

Re: Should I go to a Singles Mixer?

The current war on men and masculinity in society is a big part of the problem.

Re: Should I go to a Singles Mixer?

Look, I'm a lesbian so you could argue I don't know what the fuck I'm talking about, but there is no 'war on masculinity.' the war has always been on men expecting women to either stay home and do all the shit work OR work full time and STILL do all the shit work. If all you see women as is a convenient hole, you'll have trouble even just getting laid.

With respect, Vibs, please give him a chance to tell us how he defines it before you tell him he's wrong. I agree with you, and I want to hear what he has to say.
