We've been having hail and sleet lately. No snow, though.

Record breaking temps today in the 70's. Tomorrow? Couple inches of snow. :/

So it used to just be one day of super warm temperatures then it would drop right back down - now we go two WEEKS of consistently warm temps - for the next entire week in western new york not one NIGHT time temp will even hit 30 degrees - it's February.

Wish this winter was snowier.

Re: Where's the snow? -- Winter 2017-18 thread

We just got bombed with a 12" snowfall. 50's earlier in the week, snow piles everywhere today. Not unusual for us to get 40 or even 50d swings in temperature but usually the biggest are in mid March to April. This is a touch early but we have had a warm spell. I remember an Easter one time in high school it was 80 out and we were all sweating. The next day we were sent home from school early due to the snow.

What made this snowfall different was how heavy the snow was. It was heavy, heavy wet snow. I have an 11hp 28" snow blower that can usually just plow right through that stuff. Today it was bogging down, getting clogged, struggling on every pass. Speaking with a couple friends we all noiticed how difficult this stuff was compared to the usually snowfall.

The nice thing though is even though we still can get snow through late April, by the time it gets to this time of year it doesn't stick around long. A few days and she should pretty much be melted.

Oh yeah, we got the edge of that storm, so maybe 7" of snow for us. And very heavy because it was just a bit below freezing, so it was a very wet snow. Luckily the roads were well plowed before I had to go to work today, and since it was sunny and a bit above freezing during the day, my driveway is almost completely clear now.

We had some morning flurries yesterday. Lost power around 2pm. I assume the wind caused a tree to fall and take down power lines with it. Still no power this morning. House is f'ing cold. May head into work. At least it will be warm there.

RI is being hit with its 3rd Nor'Easter in less than 2 weeks. Current forecast is calling for 10-15" with up to 18" possible in some areas. I'm on vacation this week, so I'm just hanging out in the house and watching the snow fall. It is supposed to linger on well into the evening hours, so I'm not planning to shovel anytime soon.

We're at 29" in the yard right now. It'll probably snow a little every other day or so for the next couple of weeks. I'm ready to rake off the roof, maybe this weekend? Breakup's comin'!

about a week ago I was outside on my back deck soaking in the sun, all the snow was gone. Now we are on our second major storm in under a week with about a foot expected today... FML

My local ski resort has received 404 inches of snow at the base. It's been a fun winter for me in the Cascades.

Re: Where's the snow? -- Winter 2017-18 thread

We haven't had the massive snowfalls we've had before but there have been a few wintery days. The main issue is it never gets warm enough to significantly melt anything. I bet there is snow on my deck from 3 months ago at this point. So when it does snow it just piles on top of what's already there. I've seen snowmounds in parking lots that have to be 25 feet tall.

Supposed to get to 50 this week so hopefully that'll help.

We had a snowstorm a few weeks ago where everyone pre-preemptively cancelled school except for Saint Paul. We got slammed in the afternoon and there were kids on school buses there who didn't get home until almost midnight. No exaggeration.

So when a similar storm was predicted last week, EVERYONE cancelled without a single flake falling - and then we got slammed during the commute again. Really weird to see school called off without snow flying but it was a good call both times.

Re: Where's the snow? -- Winter 2017-18 thread

We got hit with the first one bad. The second one missed us entirely. Tomorrow is supposed to drop some snow but only 6 - 8" which is no big deal around here. At least as long as it doesn't drop all at once. It's supposed to be spread throughout the day. The plow drivers hate it because they have to keep going back out.

National Weather Service says my city got hit with 20". I waited until the majority of the storm was over to do my shoveling. The snow was light, so that was a big plus.

We escaped the brunt of the storm yet again. We got about 6" of light fluffy stuff which is nothing. A little caution on the roads and a bit extra time for the commute. The plows have already been out and salt is down. Plus once you start getting to this time of year, there is a little more radiant heat with longer days so it is more apt to melt faster.

Good to hear, my wife was planning to take the kids to the Strong Museum tomorrow, but was worried about the storm today.

I think its been several years now since we have had any major snow here in town. I enjoy one or two major snowstorms a year, but the last major snowfall was in 2013. Maybe next year.

Re: Where's the snow? -- Winter 2017-18 thread

The snow from these last few Nor'easters have missed us but the law of averages has definitely taken hold. Our usual warmup for early March came a couple weeks early in February. Now the temps are supposed to be 44ish and we won't get out of the 30's this week. So no new snow but the snow we have isn't melting one bit. Wind chills in the low teens. By late March you get pretty tired of cold.

First day of Spring and we’re apparently set for our biggest snowfall of the year here. Maybe 9 inches total over the next 36 hours, but at least I’m off work.

Yikes! I slacked off and didn't rake the roof and the fitness place and the masonic hall roofs collapsed! Now I'm worried my weight might be the straw. Damned if I do, damned if I don't.

The weather in late Feb to right now has been a lot cooler in the Bay Area and that is the way I like it and not warm weather or high 70's in Winter.
