Hurricane Irma 2017
So anybody getting ready for this one? Governor of FL already declared a state of emergency. I'm in Melbourne, finishing up Labor Day weekend and they are almost out of water around here. People seem to be taking it seriously around here, but they got blasted on the east coast of FL last year by a hurricane. The track of this thing doesn't look good for America's Wang.

I hope this turns out to be nothing. You never know the trajectory of these things. I've seen graphics with 30 different possibilities. We'll see...

Since I don't want to get blamed for saying "Don't evacuate!" I'll say now that you should always evacuate whenever any storm is heading your way. That ought a cover me..

I'm down in the Ft Lauderdale area which is right in the middle of the predicted path. We swung by the grocery store tonight, and everyone was starting to stock up. They were all out of bottled water. And there were long lines at the gas stations.
As it stands now, we'll probably put up the storm windows. But we don't plan on evacuating.

It's good to see people preparing this early, gives enough time for another delivery of water and supplies -- which probably won't happen, but there is enough time.

This is the first hurricane where I have seen stuff on FB like "This will be a category 6 city destroyer, or the path is wrong and the media is lying to you."

Given how warm the waters around Florida are now, we may be talking something like the super typhoons that sometimes ravage the Philippines with a large storm size and winds over 160 mph.

In all seriousness, it is hard to know what to make of this. Obviously, people are much more on edge about a major hurricane coming on the heels of another that was so damaging.

Irma was created to only take out the confederate flags and statues.
Glad to see Floridians taking it seriously. Looks to be a monster.

I'm about as far inland as it gets in SC, so it's strange seeing my neck of the woods directly in the path.

I don't understand why people don't just fill up the containers they have at home with water from the tap/home filter. Surely most people have a bunch of tupperware they aren't using, as well as countless other pitchers and whatnot. It doesn't travel as well, some containers not at all, but are these people really taking their water on long trips?

Category 5 is already a city destroyer, so there's no point in adding another category above that.
I can't think of any purpose, even a nefarious one, for "the media" to lie about the predicted path of a hurricane. It's not like the hurricane itself won't expose the lie in a few days. What would be gained? Nobody would ever trust them again. So much for being a useful platform for spreading disinformation in the future.

Cool site that lets you see where the storm is going to be and when it will be there. Plus how hard the wind is going to be sustained.
I am in Merritt Island for you guys who are in Melbourne...
