My new cable box displays the channel instead of the time, and the clock near the TV is a non-lighted analog so I might get something like that.

Many cable boxes have a setting to change the display from time to channel.
Just check the setup menus.

I was thinking more like "Two bells and all is well!" but I like the bugle.

That's very true you can always buy a used VHS from a thirft store for cheap, and not only will it give you the time but it will also play VHS tapes in case you ever need to play one

Jay Leno was on some show recently talking about when he first bought his mom a VCR. He set it all up for her, but she said it never recorded. He went over another time and set it to record again. Same thing--it never recorded. Turns out she unplugged it every night to save electricity.

Re: I need a digital clock that stays lit overnight in the living room

I knew I should have checked here... I did the same thing, turned in old cable boxes for new boxes with no display.

All the clocks I found online were either expensive, or not bright enough. I'll be buying one of these in this thread, as soon as I figure out which one will work best for me.

Thanks!

Who knew buying clocks would be so complicated? I still haven't purchased one.

Then you don't really need it.

How has your family survived? They have probably turned on each other, resorting to cannibalism in the night. Oh the inhumanity!

Just post in this thread every few minutes, then check the time next to your post, then tell them what time it is, then eat some pineapple.

That's exactly what I was doing. Except for the pineapple part, so that's why it felt incomplete. Now I know. Thanks!

That will NEVER work. Pineapple? Pssshaw. Everybody knows you need mango to make that work.

I never could stand Chris Kataan. I did see his "story" on Dancing With the Stars awhile back though. Rather sad.

When I first set it up, I clicked around with the remote and couldn't find anything, but googling turned up an official user manual, and I changed it.

Re: I need a digital clock that stays lit overnight in the living room

If paying close to $30 is not that high maybe you can get this clock. It has close to a 5 star rating at Amazon with 9,788 customer reviews.

I got it and it stays lit at night and it comes with a AM/FM radio .

The alarm sounds like a air raid siren so you can hear it.

Re: I need a digital clock that stays lit overnight in the living room

Holy crap, I'm going to start buying all the old digital clocks I see at the thrift stores and send them to you.

Say, there's a thought. You should check places like Goodwill as they'll have a place where you can plug in electronics to make sure they work.

Re: I need a digital clock that stays lit overnight in the living room

You know what would be a good idea? If you find a small digital clock that you could attach to a bracelet and wear it. That way you wouldn't lose it after this long and meaningful journey to find a clock.

Re: I need a digital clock that stays lit overnight in the living room

Beaten to the punch again! I could have retired! Every time I invent something, somebody steals it.

You know those individual Kool-Aid packets you can add to a water bottle? I had that idea when I was 12.

Those towels that cool when they get wet? Yep, about 3 years before hey hit the market.

Indoor plumbing? Space travel? That was me too. The colors blue and green ... yep, me.

And now ... the combination clock-bracelet (the clocklet -- not to be confused with the clock-ring) has been stolen from me. Another of my ingenious ideas ripped away from me like a baby left in a hot car.
