Re: The One and Only Fyre Festival Mega-Thread Featuring JaRule

The doc tells the whole story, and the whole story is worse than you thought.

I watched the Netflix doc last night. It’s pretty good. I will walk back my opinion of the tents. They are decent, but not North Face expedition level quality.

One major detail that I heard for the very first time: They pitched and marketed this festival as being on a private island. And they had a private island. It really was Pablo Escobar’s fucking drug island! And for one moment the plan was to house almost everyone in a cruise ship anchored off shore. This might have worked! For one fleeting moment it might have actually worked! But they f’d it up.

They ended up not not even using that island and instead used a small corner of Exuma which is like the major main island. They promised remote and delivered urban. It was like if Burning Man pulled a switch and was on The Las Vegas Strip.

They never really say if any acts besides Blink128 was ever actually booked.

I watched the Netflix documentary last night and it was fascinating. I seem to remember them saying the acts were booked but nothing was ever paid to them in advance. Major Lazer (or whatever they were called) was interviewed and he seemed to act like they were booked.

Had no idea about the competing Hulu documentary until I saw this thread today. Gonna check that one out as well.

Re: The One and Only Fyre Festival Mega-Thread Featuring JaRule

So I guess my next question would be besides Blink128 who seemed to post at the last minute that they were not performing, did any of the other acts make such a statement? Did they even know they were booked? Do not major acts send a advance team to check the stage, sound, lights..etc are up to their standards before the act shows up? Shouldn't the acts have known a week or so in advance that this was not going to happen and let their fans know?

I don't know about all that but it was mentioned that everything had gone through each band's agents. Now whether their agents told them or not was not mentioned. Probably every band has different communication with their agents so who knows?

182. Other acts were booked. They were never paid, which was an issue and suspicious to the agents.

And load in are generally done a day before with the crew for a festival. Some times bands don't even get there until the day they perform. The festival was cancelled before it began.

I think the Netflix one is way more entertaining but the HULU one acts as a more "investigative" piece. I watched the Netflix one first then the HULU one. Back to back. Shit was addicting!

I would watch the Netflix one first then the Hulu. That is what I did. Watched it back to back.

Yea, what Blu said.

Re: The One and Only Fyre Festival Mega-Thread Featuring JaRule

I think it is best to watch the Netflix one first. It has more interesting interviews and it seems a little more interesting behind the scenes stuff.

The Hulu one comes across as a Billy lovefest...until they interview him. Then the love train goes off the rails. The guy couldn't come across as more guilty or more of a piece of shit.

I didn't watch them back to back but I watched them on consecutive nights. It was addictive. If there was another competing one, I would watch it too.

Mabuse, thanks for the update. I didn't know that those were top-grade tents and I'm glad your friend had a good time.
Just wanted to quote this. The article should definitely be read after (or before) you watch.

When you do it won’t be over your head. It’s one of the more stand out moments. It’s bonkers.

My wife and I were like, “What in the actual fuck?” It’s the most “that escalated quickly” moment since Ron Burgundy.

That was a great moment. I was like, that wasn't covered on the Hulu version.

Here's the joke that was referenced, with regards to Ja Rule.

Re: The One and Only Fyre Festival Mega-Thread Featuring JaRule

Both are worth watching. Good stuff.

The Netflix one feels more "in the moment" and focused on the event, the Hulu one is more a retrospective and focuses more on Billy himself. It's impressive how much they compliment each other.

He should hook up with Elizabeth Holmes after he gets out, they could make a real winner.

Wooooow. We watched the Netflix and Hulu docs back to back and I was floored. Apparently, I kept saying, "You idiots!" all throughout both docs. If it was a drinking game very time I said it, you've been dead before the Netflix doc rolled credits.
