Mom died

For those of you unfamiliar I have relayed some of poor mom's problems over the last couple years in the Alheimers thread and the Robin Williams thread.

Mom hadn't done well after dad passed. She went steadily downhill. She still had enough wherewithal to know she was losing her mind just like Robin Williams. But she had no control over the hallucinations, confusion and paranoia that polluted her thoughts.

Last Saturday she had another fall and fractured her pelvis. We were certainly aware that can be very problematic for seniors. Saturday through Monday she seemed to be doing fine. Wednesday I got a call that she had taken a turn for the worse and was nearing end of life. I did get to visit one more time but she was unresponsive. I got a call that night that she had passed. For the first time in more than a decade she was perfectly still. No tremors or shakes from the Parkinson's. I cry every time I think about that. That poor woman hadn't had a restful sleep in over a decade. She was always shaking or swaying.

I take solace in the knowledge that she is finally at peace. She is once again with my father holding hands and she is no longer encumbered by her body that had given her so many problems. I still cry for my loss but it's a selfish cry. I cry for me because she is truly better off.

I'm sorry for your loss. I know it's been a tough time for you. It's a very long goodbye with Alzheimer's.

I am very sorry. I know from your previous posts that she (and you) have been suffering, but that doesn't lessen the pain. Take care.

My condolences on your loss Jim. I'll pray for you and your family. As you said, she is at peace. And you can cry for both, you know you did everything you could these last years.

Sorry, Jim. Alzheimer's is horrible, and my father-in-law had Parkinson's so I know what that's like for everyone involved.

Re: Mom died

I'm sorry for your loss Jim. At least Mom is not suffering anymore. It's just so hard to say goodbye, but I think she knows you love her and that you're a good son, and as painful as it hurts right now, slowly time will heal the hurt. Try to think about the good memories you have of her. Live each day as it comes and try to look for the little things that make life enjoyable and slowly, you'll start healing.
