My kids do competitions all the time. You usually get five seconds to take a look at your cube before you actually start the time.

Is Justin Beiber still a thing? I haven't been paying attention to pop music for a while.

He's on three of the top 25 songs in the US right now including the number 1 song.

I think the last time Justin Bieber made any kind of news is when all of those dick pictures got released.

Isn't EVERY picture of Justin Beiber a dick pic?

In fairness, he's "featured" on all of them, they aren't exactly Beiber songs.

That's why I said "he's on them" and not "he has". Still not really relevant to if he's still a thing or not because obviously he is.

Radio shows on TV. Why would I want to watch a radio show on tv? Hint, I woudn't.

Re: Popular stuff you have no clue about.

Radio on TV is popular? I remember that being done a few times for the novelty aspect in the 80s.

I have no clue as to what the top 10 songs are anymore- whenever I check it's usually some rap crap, and it seems like the 'popular artists' frequently are 'featured' on others' songs now. I don't know if that would be a good or bad thing if artists I like did that (Depeche Mode featuring Bernard Sumner?)

On Casey Kasem's last American Top 40 countdown show before he retired, the title of the #1 song was embarrassingly stupid. I didn't blame him for leaving.

Did you like Electronic? Mostly Bernard Sumner and Johnny Marr, but they had a few songs featuring the Pet Shop Boys and quite a few with Karl Bartos (of Kraftwerk).

It's mainly sports talk radio shows simulcast in TV. It's a cheap way for TV networks to fill programming slots.

Croissant corsages.

Raw oyster bar for weddings. Raw oyster bar under any circumstances.

Calling a mini-van a "sport" vehicle.

Selfie microphones.

Edited to add: I just realized I DO understand selfie microphones. If you think you are a wonderful singer, but aren't, you won't have a friend to video you.

Would that be Hey Yah from Outkast? I dig that song. The video is a hoot as well.

Every few months I listen to a Top 40 playlist on Spotify for the first 10-15 songs or so, just to stay current. Keeps me in the loop!

Snap Maps.
Wall Dance. I know what it is but I'm clueless why people are doing it.

Three? Wow. He's reasonably talented, but not someone I expected to make the transition from teen heartthrob to adult star.

They don't seem all that different than talking heads programs like Meet the Press or Charlie Rose.

NVMe.

Thought it was a quicker way to say nevermind on social media. I sure confused a lot of friends. And for that, I am sorry.

I try to do that but it feels like actual work getting through most of the top 10 songs.

That's how I feel. I have 50-or-so artists that I love. And I tend to add five-or-so per year. It's enough music to listen to till I die. But it leaves me out of the loop on what's mainstream.

Another thing with music, is that there are some no-name and lesser-known artists that I truly love. In film, you generally need to raise $5M or more to shoot something acceptable. With music, you need a couple thousand dollars and you're set.

The last #1 song on Casey Kasem was different than I thought it was, though I also never heard of it- Second Chance by Shinedown. I thought it was some rap song with some stereotypical title.

That's American Top 20.

His final broadcast for American Top 40 was this one:

Re: Popular stuff you have no clue about.

Some dude named Ed Sherman (?) had a cameo in last night's Game Of Thrones series opener. Maybe Sheernan, or Sheenan. Dunno never heard of him and wouldn't have known about it if not mentioned in a review I read this morning.
