Have you ever changed your user name?

My user name sucks for sure, but I have never considered changing it.

Just wondering how many of you have changed to your user names on dvdtalk at one point or another? And why?

Like; how could a John on one day, just decide he wants to be Bob instead?

Re: Have you ever changed your user name?

Yes, but not by choice. My moniker when I first signed up was a pun on a German obscenity. After several years, someone must have noticed it and told Geoff, because he PMed me and asked me to change it, which is when I came up with my current handle. I'm glad he did, because the previous one didn't represent me well, even if only very few people got it.

Re: Have you ever changed your user name?

I've been wanting to change my username here for some time now but it doesn't seem that there is a way to do it. I was pretty much Screwadu on every site I was a member of for over ten years and don't think I'm "him" anymore. I've changed a lot since 2002.

Been the same since I joined.

I briefly considered it a few years ago when people were making a mad dash to change their user names but I decided against it.

Yup...once...over a decade ago. RandyC changed it for me at my request.

No, I haven't considered changing mine.
I have thought about changing my avatar, but I've gotten used to it. And I like coffee.

Re: Have you ever changed your user name?

A few years ago when they were trying to make everyone happy they had a week or so where they'd let you change it. A lot of people changed their username and, weirdly, I think of most of them as their previous handle still.

Re: Have you ever changed your user name?

I have not changed or asked to have my user name changed.

However due to a melon stuck in the mod machine, my name was changed many many times. Though in recent years the admins probably freed the melon as i haven't seen a name change recently.

I had no idea we could change them. Been wanting to for years. My dumb name was created by my daughter when she was young. So can we just ask a Mod to change it?

Nope. I am Chrisedge almost everywhere...If that is taken I use chrisedgedotcom. There is a "famous" DJ named Chris Edge (not my last name) as well as a few others that have similar names, but I have most of them locked up. (Domain, twitter, yahoo, gmail, etc...)

Re: Have you ever changed your user name?

I originally joined the site under another account (Karma) in the late 90's. No freaking idea why I chose that username. I left for a bit and when I rejoined in 2001 I opened a new account (technically illegal at the time but I had a new IP and knew I wouldn't get caught).

I've been Nefarious ever since. Also not the best choice since I've seen it used on other boards by people that are not me.

I was Max Bottomtime on scuba boards before I joined DVDTalk. It was confusing to some but I guess the porn sounding name fit as well here.

Re: Have you ever changed your user name?

nope...used foxdvd before you even had to register...was my way of protesting the fact that fox was not going to put their movies out on dvd...

I use foxdvd on other sites as well...and at one point was offered money for my foxdvd email account from a lady who used it as well...

Funny, I don't like using my real name on forums like this (but I also hate social media and stay far away from it).

I used to be "brianluvdvd" as I couldn't think of anything better after lurking on this site for around 6 months in 1999 and finally decided to join to give info on deals I found like others at that time. Seemed a quick sign-up name but I never figured I would still be around here 18 years later.

Then DVDs went passe and I didn't care to have my real name in my username.

I asked to change it several times since most people here knew me by my OG Xbox name Spiderbite. They wouldn't let me change it until they did a one-time name change for anyone awhile back.

I am quite happy with my current name and never plan to change it. What sucks in that I dropped off Xbox Live for a couple of years and lost my original "Spiderbite" name which made me come up with "FatalSpiderbite."

The question is...will I be here another 18 years?

I don't really notice people's name change as much as I notice people's avatars. I get used to recognizing their posts by their avatar and when it gets changed, it totally messes with me for a month. I get used to the name change pretty quickly...probably because I think it is a different person.

I plan to keep my avatar the same. I like it and figure there are others who feel the same about them.

Re: Have you ever changed your user name?

I once thought about changing it to Threadkilla Mangrove but figured that I had worked too hard to achieve legendary status.

Besides, why risk losing the weekly stipend?

Re: Have you ever changed your user name?

Name changes are generally not allowed here, but as others have mentioned, there was that one-time opportunity a little while ago.

From the Forum Feedback FAQ thread:

As a result of an increased volume in name change requests and the inherent confusion caused by name changes, we're going to be putting some restrictions on name change requests from now on.

Name changes are fine (as long as they aren't too frequent) up until you reach the 1,000 post mark. At that point, you have likely become fairly well known in the forums you regularly participate in, and requests will then be considered on a case by case basis.

ie: We can understand that a name like 'MasterBaiter" might have been funny at one time, but may no longer be how you want to be seen on the forum. However, if you're a regular poster, going from "Chasing Amy" to "Run Lola Run" won't be an option anymore. So it's not a complete end to changes, but because of the confusion these things cause, you'll need to give us a good reason before we make a change from now on.

Changes that are mostly cosmetic (case, spacing) will still be allowed

Also, any major name change will now require that you put "formerly known as [old name]" in your Location field for two weeks.

I realize that this might be a little upsetting to some, but please try to understand that with as many active members as we have, it's already hard enough to keep track of who said what in the past. Throwing name changes into the mix just makes it next to impossible.

To actually get your name changed, you need to email an Administrator. Any Administrator is fine. (Please note that I, Blade, am now a retired Admin.)

Yes, I used to be LurkerBob, but decided that was a little too close to my real name, so I changed to LurkerDan

Re: Have you ever changed your user name?

I've never changed by username, but a few years ago someone complained that my avatar picture was obscene, so I had to put a censored logo over it. The original picture showed no nudity, but someone was still a little uncomfortable seeing a partial boob.
