Yeah, you're right. It's bad to click it, but the copy & paste works.

How old is his son? What a horrible thing to do to a child.

Re: RIP stp115 has passed away. 02.19.2017

It is but he didn't do that to the kid.

He did it to himself.

A friend of mine lost his father to suicide when he was 7.
He still has a broken heart.

But he is still alive.

Suicide is more mental illness and other impossible to understand problems.

This has come up in other topics, calling someone a coward and taking the easy way out etc.

No one knows what goes through a mind of a person who commits suicide.

Also yes it is a horrible thing to happen to anyone you love and care about.

Plus maybe that origianl comment is more appropriate for another less specific topic.

This is the internet. All we do is make sweeping judgements. We criticize, we troll, we make no attempt to see another's point of view while at the same time wonder why others don't see our point. That's the glory of the internet. In world history this is the most selfish, self-centered device ever invented. Thanks Al!

So, so true. It's addictive as well. What was supposed to be a boon has turned out to be an addiction to narcissism and misinformation. (DVD Talk forums notwithstanding.)

Re: RIP stp115 has passed away. 02.19.2017

^Very insightful, all three of you.

I have always argued (ironically, out of self-interest) against suicide being selfish, and I believe that in any case. However, it is a bit different, and the act perhaps more open to criticism, when one has one or more dependents. My uncle killed himself back in 1986, leaving a wife and 4-year-old son, who loved him dearly. The boy was too young to know what was going on, but a friend of his later blabbed the truth to his face. My cousin was troubled for many years, and still occasionally has mental breakdowns (I don't know if any of that is related to his dad's long-ago suicide), but seems to now be happily married and on the right track.

It absolutely is, which is why I was at least somewhat sympathetic to broadwayblue's point. However, what we are lacking here is a whole lotta information and context. Without that, any judgement is groundless and we are, and should be, left with what we can know, which is that the whole thing is very, very sad.

Re: RIP stp115 has passed away. 02.19.2017

suicide is absolutely a selfish act. perhaps the ultimate selfish act. even those who go through with it would likely agree if they were thinking clearly, but those in the throes of major depression aren't thinking clearly. that's the scope and devastation of the disease.

Six months is a short time, but I hope that the pain to you and his family has eased a bit.
