I will contribute a Sven and Ole joke in stp115's memory.

Sven and Ole are standing in line at a visitation service. As they approach the casket, Ole whispers rather regretfully to Sven, "I know this is awful, but I can't remember who died."

Sven replies, "Well, I think it's da guy in da box."

Re: RIP stp115 has passed away. 02.19.2017

Wow. What awful news. I'm sorry to hear of your loss Lena. I remember stp well from both here and njg. He was always one of my favorite posters to read. Such thoughtful and well written replies. Dvdtalk will not be the same.

Suicide is like no other type of loss. It is horrific for the loved ones left behind. Speaking as a psychologist, I cannot recommend seeing a grief therapist and/or joining a support group enough. I know they are not for everyone, but they can be unbelievably beneficial for most people trying to make sense of and cope with such a terrible loss.

In my role as the director of a clinic, I am on a listserv that has proven very helpful at getting me names for referrals all over the country (and even as far as Korea). Lena, if you or anyone you know, would like me to get some referral information for your area, don't hesitate to PM me (or for any other reason for that matter). Please take care of yourself!

Don't recall ever running across stp115, but definitely sad to lose one of our own.

Been a while Dave-o.
I am seeking help and have some things set up for myself next week. I can't speak on behalf of his family but I will share my experience with them after my meeting next week to see if that is a route they would be interested in taking.
Thanks.

Re: RIP stp115 has passed away. 02.19.2017

There was a joke recently that was kind of fucked up in this thread, and it reminded me that almost all of Sean's jokes were as fucked up in person, as they were in otter (though he was definitely mild in comparison to some!) So I thought I would share a memory I have were Sean's joke absolutely MORTIFIED me! But, hey, when you are friends with Sean, you better be ready for that.

Around 2013-ish Sean and I had plans on a Tuesday. He called me and said he had been throwing up all night. So we rescheduled for wednesday. He called me Wednesday evening and said he was still throwing up non stop. Being that he lived alone, and no one throws up for 48 hours straight normally, I drove over there to check on him. He was pale as a ghost. I told him he needed to go to the ER but of course he refused saying he had nothing sleep wouldn't fix and basically told me to shut up and watch Game of Thrones with him. "Fine Sean!" As we sat there watching TV I realized his breathing was off. Something was really wrong with it. After an hour or so I told him, let me take you to the ER or I'm calling an ambulance, you pick. He was pretty pissed at me, but finally conceded and off we went at 11pm to the ER. Once they took his vitals everything got chaotic. They instantly pulled out the EKG and holy shit, he had a heart attack, and something was very wrong. So here we go thinking its food poisoning to now a heart attack. They rushed him to another hospital (and all the while he was making jokes, being totally cool and I was so irritated at his "are you sure its not just gas" jokes because I was SO WORRIED!) with a heart center and he went straight into surgery. A valve had torn when he had the heart attack and he was bleeding out. 24 more hours they said he would have been dead. So they put a stint in his heart and surgery was successful. He came out around 3am. At first sunlight I called his mom and told her what had happened but reassured her he was okay. A couple of hours later his mom, dad, brother and sister in law all walked in the room. Of course he was hooked up to a million wires, his arm was bright orange from the iodine (they went in through a vein in his arm I believe for the surgery), and overall, he just looked like shit. His mom and dad instantly started tearing up and crying.
Sidenote: His parents are republicans, southern baptist, super nice, mostly proper church goers....

His brother says while his parents are kind of a mess "Jesus christ, Sean. And what's up with your arm" to which sean said to his entire family, "I just got done fist fucking an umpa lumpa"

GROAN........ Ill never forget the look on his moms face. Priceless. And the shit eating look on his face because the more groans he received the better.

For the record, if that was to happen today I am convinced it would have been a Trump joke. And also, for the record, he never fist fucked an umpa lumpa.

Re: RIP stp115 has passed away. 02.19.2017

I don't recall interacting much with Sean over here, but knew him much better from NJG. I feel so bad that he felt there was only this last attempt to deal with everything, but I could never judge. I'm glad the he's not suffering any longer and I hope his loved ones are eventually able to arrive at the peace that he thought he'd achieve.

Lena, to you and yours, and Sean's as well, my deepest condolences. I'm glad to hear that you're seeking help and hope his family follows suit, at least for his sons.

Thanks for the story! Did they ever figure out what caused the vomiting? Was it something that led to the heart attack?

That is a great story! I remember him mentioning the heart attack before, now it's nice to hear the whole story behind it.

His heart attack was the type of heart attack that is common among pregnant women. Except his caused a rupture in the valve. The way they explained it was its normal among pregnant women, but they never know because it causes back ache and vomiting which is normal during pregnancy. Then 20 years later they have an ekg and they say "hey, you had a heart attack 20 years ago".

Stress related.

I'm also sorry to hear this news. Considering the length of time some of us have been here, I'm guessing there's been others who have passed on and we'll never know.

It's surreal. I do think about that from time to time. Anytime someone passes I sort of take stock on my own life, reflect on my own mortality and come to the conclusion I need to make the most of the short time I have here.

I'm sure quite a few members here have died, but since most of us don't have personal connections, their deaths pass unnoticed.

^ We really shouldn't get into it in this thread, let's stay focused on Sean, but we have had a couple threads just like this over the years.

Edited to save space and to let you know what I am replying to.

Just wanted to say that's good. Sounds like he was into dark humor. Makes me wish I'd known him personally. Like that kind of stuff and I'll laugh at almost anything that's remotely funny.

Re: RIP stp115 has passed away. 02.19.2017

Hey everyone. I just wanted to drop in and let you know that Sean's best friend of 25 years was shipped half of Sean's collectables, another friend received the other half. Sean had a lot of shit! He was a collector of art, signed books, Blu Rays, framed signed posters and a plethora of random stuff. As of last night Joe has begun to list it all on ebay ( the stuff that survived the out of state move!). There are hundreds of items that still need to be listed. If anyone is a collector of these things, they are all listed by the seller "josephlu99". 100% of the proceeds goes to his son's college fund.

I'm letting you guys know because I know there are a lot of collectors in here, and Sean really cared about his stuff. And also people wanted to know if there was a fund for his son. This is how they decided to do it, and Sean wanted his stuff to be sold for that purpose.

Thanks everyone. And take care.
Lena

Thanks, Lena. I picked up one of the items and will check for other listings later.
