Re: RIP stp115 has passed away. 02.19.2017

Death is hardest on those who are left behind. I know that's a Capt. Obvious point, but for those friends and love ones left behind, finding ways to cope can be the so difficult. It's natural to blame yourself especially in this case, but at some point I hope you can come to the realization that it's not your fault.

Re: RIP stp115 has passed away. 02.19.2017

Getting personal is perfectly permissible! All of those stories matter, they add up to our friendship. Nothing can take that away. That's why I chose the username "story." There's nothing better in this world than a good story.

I personally appreciate those stories, they're great! You might consider sharing some of them with anyone who is planning a funeral or memorial. Officiants often like to include these little human moments. They offer tremendous catharsis in the midst of a service or reception afterward. Maybe save the ass-slapping story for after the service!

Since all of this is new to you, I hope you will seek resources. Maybe not today, but my experience tells me you'll need people to process this with (my experience also tells me the processing is almost always the satisfying part). Many will offer, and sometimes the best resources you find are those who refer you to the right ones. Does anyone have cobtact info for dave-o from here and/or NJG days? He's a good counselor.

I'll send you an email later.

Really sorry for the loss of Sean, Lena. I can't even imagine how it is to deal with this on such a personal level. My thoughts are with you and his family.

The closest experience I have to this is a cousin's step-daughter who passed at age 14, by her own choice as well.

Still, even 40 is too damn young. Damn.

Heartfelt condolences, Lena. Was informed in the thread in which Sean & I had been debating earlier today, and hoped that the report was wrong.

As one of the last members here to interact on the forum with him, I can truly say that he will be missed and is missed already. He always was willing to engage in spirited, passionate discussions.

May you find comfort in the memory of the good times and peace in the days ahead.

And I'm sure that the forum members will welcome any thoughts you wish to share or a listening ear, whether in public or via PM, if you desire.

Sincerely, Richard

Such horrible and sad news. My condolences to his son and family.

Like others have said, DVDTalk is a family and to lose someone so young is heartbreaking.

I don't think I interacted with him much directly, but it is always hard to lose a member of a community that we all care about. So tragic. My thoughts and prayers are with all of his loved ones.

Capt. Obvious point or not, it's true.

I've experienced my share of loved ones dying in my time and one thing that I've concluded they all have in common is the ones left behind have a difficult time wrapping their heads around it. It doesn't matter if it was a surprise or if it was expected.

My theory is that due to some sort of odd self preservation or fear of mortality or something, the human mind just doesn't comprehend death very well. I believe our brains go into some subconscious denial about death that we're blinded and numbed by it immediately before the fact and often a long time after. I think there's some sort of biochemistry at work or something firing in our brains that physically shuts down when trying to process death.

As a memorial to Sean, can we delete all the posts after this one and lock the thread? I think he would be happy having the last word in a DVDTalk debate

Lena--one of my brothers committed suicide in December (he was terminally ill). I am so very sorry for your loss, and believe me, I know what you're going through. I need to re-add you on FB, I don't see you on my list anymore. Sending you an invite, with hugs.

Been away from the forum all day, and seeing this thread upon logging in is a real punch in the gut.

I'm so sorry to learn of this. I'm praying at this very moment for those who knew him well.

Even though I've been here almost 7 years I feel like I still don't know very many people here. Still, this makes me sad to learn we've lost a valued member of our little community. Life can be rough sometimes, I've had my share of grief. RIP stp...

I'm so sorry to hear this news, especially for those who knew him personally. I hadn't seen him on site that often recently, but he was active in our Star Wars guild, and it's always good to see a recognizable DVDTalk name there.

Hoping all will be able to find peace soon.

Sorry to get so personal. I'm just having such a hard time with this...
Was very sorry to hear of Sean's passing this morning. I'm one of the dvdtalkers that was in the SW Guild with him.

I lost an extremely close friend to suicide this past summer. I experienced all that you said you're dealing with. I can tell you that while those feeling will more than likely always remain, they will get easier to deal over time.

I drove myself crazy for months thinking I must have missed something, that there was some sign that just went over my head. After time, I finally was able to come to terms with the fact that there was nothing I could have done to prevent it from happening.

The best advice I can give you is don't feel afraid to lean on those around you if you need it. Again, very sorry for your loss.

I've been having that same thought kd5 ... I've been here a long time and I've never met a fellow DVDTalker in person. I know there are a few in my area, but we've never actually met. I had invites from a number of Otters when I went to Ohio this summer, but I was on crutches and didn't get to do all the things we had planned.

Maybe we should re-start the DVDTalk Meet-ups?

Even though I've never met an Otter IRL, it still hurts to lose one of our own. If you're feeling pain, please reach out to someone, anyone, to talk.

Re: RIP stp115 has passed away. 02.19.2017

I hate to hear this news, it is bad when an illness or accident takes someone, but this tragedy is much sadder. To think of the pain they were experiencing, especially with family and friends. My heart goes to his friends and family, especially his son. I have one and whatever crap life deals me, my first thought is to do for him and make sure his life is the best it can be. I am sure Sean was as devoted to his son and the pain he must have experienced is soul crushing to imagine.

Same here. I recognize stp's name, but can't specifically recall having interacted with him.
I do remember Lenamrie from the adult section at NJG, where she generously "gave of herself". Condolences to you, Lenamrie, and to stp's family and friends. If it's any consolation, he's no longer suffering.
