How many U.S. States have you visited?

How many U.S. states have you been in?

It has been on my bucket list to visit all 50 states in my lifetime. Until I was 30 I had probably only been in about 7; but since then I've been to more than half, so I have about 22 to go.

Flying over the state doesn't count, but if your plane lands at the airport it still counts even if you don't get off the plane.

Edit: Looks like I'm actually at 24, but close to half.

I did a band tour a couple decades ago that went through California, Nevada, Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Tennessee, Georgia, Kentucky, Indiana, Michigan, Illinois, Wisconsin, Minnesota, South Dakota, Montana, Idaho, Washington and Oregon. I also lived in Utah for a month. Fly to Maryland for work. A layover in Missouri. I also may have clipped the corner of Ohio when going from Lexington to Indianapolis.

Re: How many U.S. States have you visited?

I just checked and it seems like it's now 45 states - driving through them.

To me, a plane stopping, my getting off, but not leaving the airport would NOT COUNT!

Re: How many U.S. States have you visited?

I've been to all 50 but don't remember a lot of them. When I was young my family went on lots of cross country trips and I got these little Stuckys (who remembers that?) license plates from each state we went through. I have 48 of those. Plus we've still got a map somewhere that shows all the routes we took. In some cases we just dipped into a state for a short time just to tick it off the list. I think I stepped a foot into New Mexico at four corners and that was probably it. In my late early teens we took a cruise to Alaska and in the years since I've been to Hawaii a few times.

I've got 21 not counting states I passed through on a car or train trip without stopping and doing something.

I want to say about 20. Of the two trickiest, I've been to Hawaii and my wife lived in Alaska when she was little. That's actually stopping and doing something there/staying the night. Counting layovers is kind of a cheat, IMO.

Re: How many U.S. States have you visited?

49, missing only South Dakota. Knocked New Mexico off the list last fall. Fortunately, my job sent me to North Dakota a few years back. I cannot imagine a reason for visiting it otherwise.

And no, it absolutely doesn't count if you don't leave the airport.

If you looped Cincy on the west side along I-275 to I-74, you did. But just barely.

10. Most of the states in the west (CA, OR, WA, ID, MT, NV) and a few others (MN, IL, TX, LA).

I am planning a trip to DC and NY this year though.

Does being "in a state" count?

I'm counting Minnesota since I hoofed it from one side of Minneapolis-St. Paul airport to the other for a layover.

23 if my calculations are correct.

I've also been in a state of denial before, but obviously that's not included in the total.
