X-Mas Bonus 2016

Merry X-Mas Eve Eve!

Got my bonus early this year since Christmas falls on a Sunday this year. Ended up getting $150 this year ($50 more compared to last years).

Got about $200 in tips this year as well .

I work for the state, so I get free 4 hours from the governor and another free 4 hours from the department I work at (don't have to use my PTO balance). So I got a free day off today

I got a bonus for the first time last year. Now I work for a non-profit, so I guess the work is the reward? I'll keep telling myself that.

No bonus but almost tripled my salary this year so no complaints on the company coffee mug I was given as a gift.

Re: X-Mas Bonus 2016

I looked at what I wrote in your previous X-Mas Bonus threads, mhg83, and came across my entry from last year:

Originally Posted by story View Post

At the first location, for nine years, I received several humble-and-appreciated gifts as a sort of bonus (gift cards, etc.). At my current location in my current role, this doesn't happen at all. And that's okay, though it surprised me and I sometimes wonder why these two similar locations have such different cultures around this. Really, it's okay, though.

Not a bonus, but my boss let me know she's trying to get me a raise for 2016, as I'm both 1. paid the minimum for my field, and 2. was thrown into work overload last year when my former boss resigned.

For people who receive a bonus at this time of year, do they call it a "Christmas Bonus," "end of the year bonus," or something else?
Still essentially the same. Same field, year twelve, third in a new promotion. First nine years in the first location, many humble-and-appreciated gifts at this time of year, including cash. Past three at this new location, nothing. And again, it is okay, but the more I think about it, the more I'm surprised by it. I'll live.

As for the raise, I'm on a step system and get an automatic 1.8% raise each year for the first eight years (I'm starting year three in 2017). Last year I got my automatic raise but the bonus raise my boss tried to get on top of it couldn't happen with a flat budget. However, for 2017 she got me and an equivalent co-worker each a 5% raise approved. I'm grateful, no doubt, but the challenge, however, is it's based on this year's salary instead of next year's. That 5% ends up only 3.2% over what I'm entitled to make next year. The co-worker has enough time served (like twenty years!) that they don't get automatic raises anymore. It's frustrating because I also know subordinates are getting a percentage raise next year, too, and if the powers that be don't go off next year's salary, my bump will end up less than the subordinates. For some reason, my boss doesn't see things the way I do and it's frustrating. Really, we're talking about a few hundred dollars, but it's enough to send our two kids to preschool for a week, and for our wallet every little bit counts.

No bonus normally. The site I work at was due to shut down on the last day of Dec, but they let us go two weeks early with pay. So I guess it's kind of a bonus?

This year's bonus was roughly 16% of annual salary. We had a REALLY good year

I'm fortunate that we've always gotten a bonus where I work, the equivalent of a weeks pay (which comes in handy once those Christmas credit card bills roll in!). Plus my supervisor gave us a $25 Visa gift card, and yesterday we only had to work four hours but got paid for eight.

Re: X-Mas Bonus 2016

In 33 years at my company we only went three times without a bonus. This was one of those years.
I retired Thursday so it didn't bother me too much.

Re: X-Mas Bonus 2016

I got to keep my job. I'm in the solar industry. My company laid off 2500 a couple of weeks ago, so bonuses will be rare, if any, for the next 12-18 months.

Re: X-Mas Bonus 2016

0.0 as most government workers do.

My wife just went back to her previous company after almost a year at a startup. She had only been back a month, so she wasn't expecting anything. The owner of the company handed her a card with $1,200 in it, same as everyone else. Totally unexpected, but totally awesome.

I was laid off in September (right before my birthday) but just started a new higher-paying job last week, right before Christmas so I'll consider that a bonus.

Same as my other 17 years as a professional. Nada. Unless you could first several years I worked as a contractor, then we got a piece of company branded swag. Stuff like umbrellas, duffel bags, etc. I certainly don't count those.

Re: X-Mas Bonus 2016

I get to work on Christmas at 3am (getting paid $50/hour under 1.5), plus I get a free Buffet lunch after I get off being served by the company. Does that count?

Re: X-Mas Bonus 2016

No bonus.
No Christmas party.
No kids Christmas party, even.

Didn't get laid off, though, unlike a close coworker.
