I think there's a spider living in my car. Help me, otters.

Every few days, I notice a strand or two at the very top of my windshield. There's no cohesive "web" or anything. Just strands near the top, and around the rear view mirror.

Apparently my wife noticed it awhile ago, but didn't tell me because she didn't want me to torch the car.

Well, now I have to decide if I should torch the car or not.

What do I do? / What would you do?

Your poll is a little flawed, Dan. I kind of like spiders in theory -- you know, like in a tree or bush. But in my car? Spinning a web?? I'd unload an entire can of Raid and leave the car as a foggy mess all weekend to kill that mf'er.

There are two possibilities:
1. Your car is infested with insects which you haven't noticed because the spider is eating them.
2. There are no insects in your car and the spider will leave on its own.

Sorry to say, but your wife is having an affair with Peter Parker.

If a bee gets in your car the spider will eat it.

You have a choice.

A quiet spider who minds his own business, or a bee.

But I have yet to discover what type of spider it is. It could be a little guy just trying to do an honest day's work, or...

Not trying to hijack the thread....but I got a new squad car in late February 2016. Had the car 2 days and noticed little shreds of paper in the passenger foot area. Wasn't sure if the installer (who installed all the equipment) left it there so I just cleaned it up. Next day...more.

Mouse in my squad. Set up a trap with some peanut butter...came out the next morning to go to work...yup. Mouse in the trap. He got an ass kicking.

No issues since then....thank god.

Re: I think there's a spider living in my car. Help me, otters.

Also not trying to hijack the thread. But once when stationed in VA. I was trying on FT. Belvoir to visit wife in hospital. Had my driver side window down. As I car drove by me in the opposite direction I felt something hit my arm & felt it fall down by my feet. I thought the someone from the car through something from me. Went & visited the wife & then drove home. On the way to school with my 4 young kids there was a bat that flying all over my huge custom van. All hell broke loose. My kids were screaming as I was just getting to the main gate of Ft. Belvoir. All the doors of the van were open up & the MP's were wtf was going on. We came to a stop & everyone jumped out. Told the MP's what there was a bat in the Van & they though we were crazy. I told them just look at my kids, they were all crying. Opened the back double doors to the van & move some pillows & blankets & they bat flew out from the van.

Re: I think there's a spider living in my car. Help me, otters.

I had an issue where I learned that spiders were attacted to a fluid that helps keep the engine humming along and for quite some time I would find a nearly complete web on the drivers side side-mirror because a spider kept wanting to set up shop on the outside of my Hyundai. I once carefully wiggled out of a pea coat on my way to work and had to place the sleeve outside my car window on Hwy 101 and blow hard to get the spider off my coat. It freaked me out, but it was not living in my car, I just missed that it was on my coat when I wore it.

Don't worry, I'm sure you'll be fine. Chances are fair it's probably unlikely to be a brown recluse.

Aw, c'mon, now that's no way to speak to an old friend. But why move to Texas, of all places in the world? Anyway, at worst you or your wife will suffer a limb amputation.

Re: I think there's a spider living in my car. Help me, otters.

Update: I think the spider(s) have moved out. My wife saw a second tiny one and even I saw one myself. But that was weeks ago now. Hopefully they've moved to Mars and joined a band with Mr. Stardust.

Related: So I was finally doing the edging on my lawn (after a few months of letting it get astray) and, a light-brown spider came out of the crack between the back door and the cement pad. Fucker crawled to the end of the cement pad and just stood there, still. I used my weed whacker and FUCKED HIS SHIT UP, SON. Fucker splattered.

It may not have been a brown recluse, but shit, I wasn't taking any chances.

I also saw two little lizards (Geckos, I think). I let them live because those dudes are cool.

I still hate you Norm; I hate you AND I love you. <3

Oh, you're still with us, Dan. Phew! We hadn't heard from you for quite some time. Still, be careful. I read somewhere that 57% of Texans are bitten by brown recluses every year. Not to worry. I hear shingles is a bit more painful.
