Mom saves 5 y/o son from mountain lion (aka more bad parenting!)

Colorado mother rescues son from mountain lion's mouth

A woman in Colorado has saved her five-year-old son by prying open a mountain lion's mouth after the animal attacked the boy in their front yard, officials say.

The mother heard screams and raced outside the house near Aspen, where she found the animal on top of her son, the Pitkin County Sheriff's Office said.

The boy suffered face, head and neck injuries and was said to be in fair condition at a hospital in Denver.

The unidentified woman said she grabbed one of the animal's paws and stuck her right hand in its mouth to pry it open and free her son's head, Pitkin County Sheriff's Deputy Michael Buglione said.

The mother had bite marks on her hand and scratches on her leg after the lion, believed to be two years old, ran off, he added.

Wait, she wasn't watching her kid like a hawk 24/7, didn't have her yard/house surrounded by a moat/draw bridge/electrical fence/barbed wire and had not taught her 5 y/o how to shoot a rifle?

Guilty!

We lived out in the country when I was a kid and we had all kinds of wild life out in them hills and my parents let us run free. I guess someone should have called social services on them. I did get charged by a wild mountain goat once but all my parents did was laugh at me.

I like how the article assumes the mom saved her son. The boy and the cat were probably just rough housing.

With all these recent attacks, I am starting to see why this film was ahead of its time:

And CBS's Zoo returns in just over a week. This "attack" was undoubtedly a publicity stunt.

Now we're getting into animal attacks that I'm familiar with. Here in California this is common. I've heard of mountain lions going after really young kids on a couple of occasions. Strangely the lion doesn't kill the kid, but always picks it up by the skull/head and takes it away. I wonder what they would do with kids if they had their druthers.

We did have one fatality in a State Park back in the late '80s/early '90s. Young kid was killed by mountain lion. The park changed its rules. For more than a decade you had to be over 16 to go anywhere but the visitors center. Slowly the rules became more and more lax and today it's open to everyone.

So every mountain lion hasn't been rounded up and killed by now? What the hell are the authorities doing about this? Won't someone think of the children?!?!?!

If only there was a sign saying there were mountain lions present. That would have prevented the entire incident.

There are signs. Unlike Florida where they just say "no swimming" and leave it to your imagination.

99% of places in Florida that have gators don't have no swimming signs. Or gator signs.

And about a week ago their was a mountain lion walking around a store parking lot about a mile from my house. The store didn't have any mountain lion signs either.

Maybe Terminator got it all wrong and it's the animals trying to stop Skynet.
