Suggestions on a good pair of Steel Toe Boots?

I've some cheap as fuck ones from Walmart that apparently just died to the point today where my feet were fucking killing me. My feet are very sore right now. I know brands like Wolverine and such but I wanted to get a buyer's opinion from here to see what you lot like for those kinds of boots.

I don't want to buy a fancy pair and it ends up just being a poor set of boots.

Grew up wearing these due to my association with the punk scene they are both comfortable and rugged :

30 years ago when I did real work I would wear Red Wing work boots.

My last pair just died while onsite in Tampa. I'm going to be keeping my eyes on this thread.

Yeah, most of the guys here wear Red Wings on the job (it helps that the company sends a fitting team in once per year to get everyone sized, some sort of testing program for new sole formulations I understand).

I only wear steel toes on the weekend when doing stuff that requires the protection, so I saved a bit of money and got a pair of Chinook Tarantulas. They weigh a ton, but my feet are safe and they've held up quite well.

Red Wings. It's the best place I bought for work.

Re: Suggestions on a good pair of Steel Toe Boots?

Another vote for Red Wings. They are pricy but they last and are the most comfortable work boot I have ever worn. I wear a pair of their model 2412 from the end of September to about the end of May for 45 or so hours a week. Current pair are going to be 5 years old this coming January and are just now starting to show signs of being slightly worn. If you do go with Red Wings, even if you don't, I suggest to everybody to get the Tough Toe protectant. I would always wear holes in the toes of my boots, down to the steel toes. The Tough (Tuff?) Toe is a liquid that they brush on to the toes of the boots that protects them. I had it done to my current pair, and I still havent come close to wearing through it.

I've worn Wolverines for the past 15 years and they were always comfortable. Go with any boot rated ANSI 75 and you should be good (for extra coverage you can get a pair with added tongue protection too).

I've been wearing these every day for the past three years. They feel like slighly heavy running shoes compared to other steel toe boots I've worn.

Jesus. I've never known anything about Red Wings aside from the brand name. But... from what I'm studying up on them... they're fucking impressive. Hrmmmm. AND I have a store in town too. About 2 miles from me. Nice.

I've had a pair of Wolverines for a while now, with a carbon fiber toe. It makes them lighter than steel toed. I don't use them daily, so I can't really speak to how well they hold up, but no problems so far.

Caterpillar Boots are up to 40% off on DOTD. Got an email from Amazon today. Don't know anything about this brand, so if it helps, great.

IMO, moc toe Red Wings are the best workboot available. I didn't suggest them because they're hardly cheap.

Agreed on all counts. I would add that they are worth the extra money if one truly needs a real work boot and is going to wear them and be on their feet for long periods of time.

Red Wings are what my dad wore working as a diesel mechanic standing on concrete all day. Expensive work boots but they lasted a long time.

Red Wing is the way to go. I wear them everyday for work and they are still going strong nearly 5 years later. While at the store its also worth paying extra for the extra cushy insole, especially when you are on your feet all day.

I just ordered another pair of P.W. Minor work boots. Made in the USA, and come in EEEEE widths. You get what you pay for.

Re: Suggestions on a good pair of Steel Toe Boots?

I bought a pair of $100 Wolverines when I started in my current job about 5 years ago. Granted, I don't wear them every day, but they've lasted until just recently. I actually wore through the sole though, not the exterior of the boot. They are probably the most comfortable pair of shoes I own (including sneakers/tennis shoes). I'd like to have them re-soled rather than buy a new pair, but I doubt it is cost effective.
