Anyone have seborrheic dermatitis?

If so, what do you use that works?

i read much stuff online and it is so non-specific as to what shampoos or ointments really do the trick. i've been trying this tree oil shampoo the past two days, but i am sure it needs more time to kick in. it doesn't itch or hurt which is good, but it does at times.

i have a case of it around the back of the ear area and it is annoying and gross.

tell me what works that i can buy at a local grocery store or online.

thanks in advance.

Re: Anyone have seborrheic dermatitis?

I've been getting flare ups for years, usually when the weather makes dramatic shifts in temperature.

First, my doctor prescribed a topical steroid, but I got terrible results from it and I worried about the side effects. I ended up tossing all the tubes, although I briefly considered rubbing it into my biceps to see if I could make some easy gains.

Tea tree oil lotions worked well, but then I read some reports about how it can cause bitch tits. So I quit that treatment quickly.

The biggest success so far for me has been tolnaftate, a topical anti-fungal cream. I've read that seborrheic dermatitis is caused by your immune system reacting to fungus on your skin (don't know if that's true. just something I read online). A couple of applications and the spottiness clears up in days. This is my go-to treatment whenever this annoying condition returns.

Yeah, you can buy it at most places that sell that kind of stuff. Brand name is Tinactin, but you can save money by getting generic store brands.

Yes, it's generally used for the treatment of athlete's foot and jock itch (it's an anti-fungal).

As it's a cream, it probably won't work well on your scalp -- it'll just get all mixed up in your hair. But maybe it'll work on the patch behind your ear. Worth a try at least.

Word of warning: I'm not a doctor, but I do play one on the Internet.

Re: Anyone have seborrheic dermatitis?

Have you tried a coal tar shampoo like T/Gel?

Also, whatever you're using, it might take a while to see results, like a couple of weeks or a couple of months.

funky...how many times a day did you apply to infected area and did you just use your finger?

i bought the Tinactin spray and a cream because one store had the spray only and found the cream later on. thought the spray would be easier and less mess...

I just hired a hooker to rub it in. Multitasking, you know.

I have a mild case and my dermatologist gave me samples to try. Seems to do the trick.

Nizoral Ketoconazole anti fungal shampoo is highly effective for seborrheic dermatitis.

Re: Anyone have seborrheic dermatitis?

After applying the shampoo, you leave it on for 5 minutes, yes?

Do you wear spectacles?
