Sardines. Who likes 'em?

I've been eating sardines since I was six years old.

I prefer the small brisling sardines over larger varieties.

I usually just eat them with saltine crackers.

My favorite brand is King Oscar.

At $2.67 a tin (Wal-Mart), they're more expensive than some other brands, but they're well worth it.

I haven't eaten them in a long time, but I like the sardines in mustard sauce on top of saltine crackers. They are quite tasty.

I like them. Don't eat them too often. One of the best sandwiches I every made was sardines, brie, mustard on crusty french bread.

Never tried them. They just don't seem that appealing to me.

No. King Oscar sardines have a very mild, delicate taste. Not fishy or over salted.

I ate them a lot as a kid... they were always in the asian market, the type that are in a can soaked in chili sauce.

We split a tin of King Oscar Sardines just a while ago and we have one more tin on the shelf. Love them, same as above - on Saltine crackers.

Re: Sardines. Who likes 'em?

Possible stupid question: Do ya just eat 'em as they are in the can, or do ya need to cut off parts first?

I like them when I was a kid for breakfast. My dad would open a can of smoked sardines along with coffee with milk.

Spoiler:

Those are extremely fishy, taste and smell. Very bitter too. Large chunks of awful dripping with tomato sauce.

Great with butter crackers, like a Ritz or Keebler butter crackers.

But as others have said, I don't eat them that often.

Most people seem to eat them whole, but the crunchy backbone always grossed me out, so when I eat them I need to split them open and peel out the backbone first.

I love anchovies too, I eat them right out of the jar, salty goodness!

The kind I would buy doesn't have the heads or Finns on them so they are ready to eat. They do have the spines which are edible but I always picked them out.

Is there a place where I can try sardines with Finns? I'm not big on cannibalism, but the clean living up there makes me think they would be tender and tasty.

It's no different than cleaning and gutting a fish your going to eat if you do any fishing.

Don't know, I am just talking about the kind you can buy in cans at the grocery store.

Re: Sardines. Who likes 'em?

I want to try them. The reason is movie related so I'll share. Go check out the imdb forum page for the The 'Burbs. There's a whole contingency on there that celebrates 'Burbs Day. It's like the second or third Saturday in July (the day the film supposedly takes place). They celebrate by doing all the stuff the characters in the film do, including eating sardines and pretzels like the Klopeck's.
