YAET - Can you beat scammers these days?

Is it even possible to remotely head off the scammers these days?

Paypal
The ebay money back guarentee

It seems like trying to sell a used iPhone on ebay, I might as well jsut go hand it to someone and save myself the trouble of getting ripped off

Any better ideas to get rid of a used iphone? or any tips on how to beat scammers?

Within an hour of listing the phone with a buy it now at a really good price, I just want to move it, I got a new account with 0 feeback and very subtle ebay username reference to porn, I mean really I cancelled the sale

People suck

I wouldnt try to sell a used Iphone on Ebay. It's the same as selling the newest video game system as soon as it is released on the market. Too many scammers or kids playing around for those items on ebay. I would use Craigslist instead.

If you're on Facebook, a lot of cities have "swap/shop" pages. While it's no guarantee, at least you can check out their FB page to see if they're semi-normal

Gazelle - prices too low

Amazon trade in - but I have heard Amazon almost always changes stated condition after receipt and lowers prices

I have thought maybe craigslist

I remember a day on ebay where you could refuse 0 feedback bidders, now it looks like only -1 feeback or greater can be avoided.

Sort of what I thought, ebay sucks balls for sellers on multiple levels

The key to Amazon is to always check the option to return the item if it gets downgraded. It makes them think twice about playing games.

I recently traded in an ancient phone that they somehow paid me around $35 for. We're talking a very early Android phone. My guess is that the prices from third parties drove up the trade-in amount, and I took advantage of it. They instantly slashed the trade-in price after I did that.

Amazon is very very picky for the highest grade. Any very slight cosmetic thing and they will downgrade it. I have gotten phones that I bought from the carrier and promptly shipped to amazon returned due to it not being the stated condition, yet it was the same condition that Verizon sent to me. A few I was able to get the highest rating for.

You have the option to with downgrade or return. I find that amazon in general gives the highest out of the respectable trade in places but this could depend on the item.

As for selling used, I use Swappa.
