New thermostat woes (help me?)

So I bought one of these new Honeywell WiFi Thermostats. Wired it up, programed it. And the world was good. I download the app and used it to change the temperature and suddenly the thermostat goes blank and my ac goes off.

The power connection is secure. I have tried flipping the circuit breaker, flipping the switch on the ac and of course taking off the faceplate to reset the unit. But all to no avail.

Any handy people have any advice before I swallow my pride and call a repair man?

Did you try entering the code? Try: up, down, up, down, A, B, A, B, start.

"Smart" technology isn't for "handy" people. Sorry, best I can do.

I assume that you didn't have the AC on until you tried it with the app, correct?

It can be that portion was wired wrong and something blew, most likely the new thermostat; can you rewire the old thermostat and see if the AC comes on?

This!

Put the old thermostat back in and see what happens.

Is this a Nest one? Seems like I was reading where Google bought Nest and have slowly started to realize they bought a company that wasn't what the owner quite claimed. Lots of blue sky, and they had even discussed just letting it all die.

Isn't it up, up, down, down, left, right, left, right, b, a, start?

Re: New thermostat woes (help me?)

Ben, I have this model which works great. So you said you wired and programmed it. Did you go into the menu to make sure the thermostat successfully connected to your home wifi? It sounds like it's connecting, but the shutdown doesn't make sense since nothing within the app can turn it off. Sounds like if could possibly be in the wiring, even though it's powered up.

Stop continuing this rumor. Yes, nest is not living up to expectations, but they aren't just shutting everything down.

Re: New thermostat woes (help me?)

I took the forum advice and rewired the old one but no luck, so something wiring or a fuse or something has gone kaput. So I have to get a HVAC specialist to come in I guess. But have to wait until next week so I don't get charged weekend rates.

I went with the Honeywell because my power company reimburses you for the upgrade. Although if I had know it was going to be such a headache I would have skipped it.

Re: New thermostat woes (help me?)

1) Buy smart thermostat for $100
2) Submit rebate for for $100
3) Pay HVAC technician $400
4) ???
5) Profit

Ehh, too complex. Too many steps.

Re: New thermostat woes (help me?)

Yeah it sometimes seems technology can get in the way of itself. It's a thermostat. I just need it to cool my house in the summer and warm it in the winter.
I have a digital programmable one from 2004 downstairs and another upstairs. They show me the precise temperature it is and are programmed to kick on and off to keep me comfortable when I'm home. I don't know what more I could need from a thermostat.

Re: New thermostat woes (help me?)

Friend of a friend helped me fix it. Blown fuse and weird wiring issue. There was no way that I wasn't going to mess it up given what had been done in the past.
