Woman Sues Starbucks for $5M Over Too Much Ice
http://www.nbclosangeles.com/news/na...377748371.html
Is there no way to say "Please take it easy on the ice"?
An Illinois woman is suing Starbucks for $5 million over the amount of ice the coffee giant used in its iced drinks, NBC News reports.
Stacy Pincus filed the class action lawsuit against Starbucks Corp. in Northern Illinois Federal Court Wednesday, according to court documents.
Pincus' suit says customers often end up with half of the amount of drink listed on Starbucks menus because of the amount of ice used in the iced beverages. The suit alleges that Starbucks is purposefully tricking customers into paying for more product than what they are provided with.
Starbucks did not immediately respond to a request for comment made by NBC News on Sunday, but told told TMZ customers expect ice is "an essential component of" iced beverages.

Stacy Pincus.
Somebody should sue her just for that last name.

Yeah, loading cups with ice is really fucking annoying.
Sonic is really bad about this. You order a soda, and they fill the cup up to the top with ice pellets, and then squirt a little bit of soda in it. In the end, probably 90% of your drink is ice. You can then take about four drinks of your "Route 44" cup (44 oz @$2.00) and you're left with nothing but ice pellets.

I hate Starbucks for two reasons:
1. They always get my order wrong
2. Too much ice!

Yeah, turns out if you order "Iced Coffee" you get coffee with ice.
If you order that same Iced Coffee with "Lite ice" you end up with substantially less ice. If you don't like the default recipe, you request a customization, like everything at Starbucks.

I certainly hope this lawsuit goes through and they have to ease up on the ice.. so that I can then sue them $5M for not having enough ice. What a country!

Since it is a class action suit, the womn is not really suing for or will receive the $4 million herself, but spread out with hundreds of thousands of customers. It seems most of these lawsuits end with customers receiving a free or BOGO coupon for some item the company makes. So basically it's just free marketing/ advertising for the company because many consumers will just sign up for the lawsuit and then the company will have a targeted list of consumers to market to.

Starbucks already charges way too much for what you get. Time to ease up on the prices and stop breaking our wives banks. I'm not a sucker for their shit.

A former co-worker and I had this debate once. He ended up losing a bet to me when I claimed a "32 oz." soda could have only 12 oz. of actual soda (or other drink). Load a 32 oz. cup with ice and you will just barely be able to pour in a 12 oz. can of soda.

A black coffee is less than a dollar more than the gas station. Sandwiches and other meal items are the same price as a non-value-item burger. Specialty drinks are really the only expensive thing there.

Agreed. Though Starbucks breakfast sandwiches can get pricey (Spicy Chorizo one is like $5), their drinks for the most part aren't bad unless it's milk heavy (ie: latte, frappuccino). Regular coffee is about $2, a 30 oz iced coffee with only a little ice is about $3.50.

I eat a Spinach and Feta Wrap almost every morning. $3.95 well spent.
With sodas, I prefer a lot of ice (a little more than half is usually good). It helps with the over-sugary flavors. I like soda to be refreshing. But, without ice in it, it's about as refreshing as eating Skittles or Starbursts. I also drink a lot of Perrier and lightly flavored seltzer soda.

Illinois ...
I had forgotten about this until reading this thread.
Man sues Papa Johns over 16 cents ... In this case, Papa Johns was charging sales tax on delivery charges (to the tune of 16 cents a pop). In Illinois, goods are taxable but services are not.

I've run into "illegally collected" sales taxes (no, not a sovereign citizen claim) in Illinois for years. Why is the same item taxed at different rates in different stores (e.g., a 20 oz bottle of soda is taxed at the grocery rate in a grocery store but at the regular rate in a gas station; tax being charged on services, not goods)? Never considered suing ...
