Re: slop101's Official Soda / Cola Thread!

Damn that soda tax is absolutely insane... basically *doubles* the price of soda... if I'm indeed reading the article correcty after having almost spit out my lunch... It means a 2L bottle would have 1.5 cents per oz * 67.6 oz = $1.02 tax! So, perhaps more than double! I can't see how this will not get voted down or squashed by the soda companies. For once, I support the companies on this one...

Glad Calif, for once was not trailblazing by getting on this bandwagon first.

Yeah, I read about this earlier in the week. Insane. And it includes diet soda and iced tea. Ridiculous. As if Philly wasn't fucked up enough.

Worst of all, this will be a regressive tax. The poor will be hit hardest.

And what's even more ridiculous is that the mayor had wanted 3 cents per ounce.

Re: slop101's Official Soda / Cola Thread!

I tried the both the Pepsi 1983 flavors yesterday since they had them at Target and there was a 40% off Cartwheel coupon. The regular one was ok, but I hated the ginger one. I probably should have anticipated it though, as i'm not a big fan of the real ginger ales out there. Can't see myself buying either again.

Re: slop101's Official Soda / Cola Thread!

Not that impressed with the 1893 original cola from Pepsi. Kind of tastes a little like Dr Pepper.

I will stick with regular Pepsi.

I don't like the Pepsi with real sugar (throwback?) since that is flat and has no taste.

Kroger owns a bunch of chains (like Baker's, Dillon's, Gerbe's, etc.) so you might have one near you and not realize it.

I liked the Ginger one, it was like a Cola mixed with Ginger Beer.

I'd like to try the 1893, but not at $2+ per can. The choice is obvious for me: two 2L bottles of regular Pepsi for the same price as one (8 ounce?) can of 1893 will take the cake every time.

Gerbe's or Dillion's store locators all bring up the same Kansas locations as Kroger's locator.

They're $1 at Walmart and Neighborhood Market here. The cans are 12 oz, they're just taller and thinner.

Re: slop101's Official Soda / Cola Thread!

Well, thanks, I'll check out my local Wal-mart for the 1893 cans. $1 is the same price as the glass bottles of "Mexican" Coke (ie, cane sugar) and Mexican Pepsi.

So Pitch Black ended up winning the Dewcision 2016. I'm fine with it even though I much prefer Baja Blast I can still get that at Taco Bell.

Ugh. Pitch black is good once a year. Baja is good year round.

Re: slop101's Official Soda / Cola Thread!

Hooray for Pitch Black winning, it is my favorite Dew by far. So, I'm correct in saying that by so winning, it will remain in production as a 'regular' flavor?

Baja Blast is good, but I hoped it wouldn't win since I can just hop on over to Taco Bell and get some if I want, unlike Pitch Black...

Re: slop101's Official Soda / Cola Thread!

Alcohol, not a true soda. I know you know this, but I feel obliged to say that on as these "alcohol-pop" drinks frequently come under attack from do-gooders and Attourneys General.

That out of the way, I have tried Henry's orange and cherry colas. After those two I gave up as I didn't care for the taste. The cherry cola tasted like a cherry soda mixed with Listerine and the orange (for some odd reason) tasted like a diet orange soda to me (i.e., bitter, see below). I wanted to try the ginger ale, but after two misses I'm not wasting my money on another 6-pack. I'm not a grape soda fan, so I'd pass on that one anyway.

My taste buds are a bit strange though. Artificial sweeteners taste bitter to me. I suspect they use some in Henry's drinks, but I am not sure.

There's a new flavor of Mtn. Dew Kickstart flavor. Mango Lime. It's damn good.

Re: slop101's Official Soda / Cola Thread!

There are two new Mountain Dew "_____ Label" sodas to go with the Black Label (dark berry) released a while back. There's White Label (tropical citrus) and Green Label (green apple kiwi). All three have "crafted" on the label, whatever that means or refers to.

Re: slop101's Official Soda / Cola Thread!

I also found another new flavor:

I wasn't a fan of the Black Label as it tasted like their yearly GameFuel with a 200% mark up.

I tried the White Label and it was nothing special, especially at $2 a can. I'm probably gonna give the Lemonade one a go later tonight.

Re: slop101's Official Soda / Cola Thread!

There was another Spiked flavor that I saw. It was a black and red can but I'm not sure what flavor it was.

I tried the Green and White Labels. The Green (green apple and kiwi) was decent but I didn't taste either flavor very strongly to be honest. I guess there was a bit of a sour flavor so maybe that's the green apple. The White (tropical) flavor was kind of eh. Not bad to try but I wouldn't necessarily buy more of it. I'm not the biggest fan of of tropical type sodas anyways though.

Ooh, looks like Raspberry Lemonade is the other Spiked flavor. That sounds great. I'm gonna have to keep my eye out for that one.

I drank the Spiked Lemonade. Pretty good. Better than the white label, but it isn't making me want to run out and buy more either.

Re: slop101's Official Soda / Cola Thread!

I won't purchase these newest cashgrabs from Mountain Dew on principle; they're way, way overpriced. I'm still loving Code Red, and Voltage, 2L bottles which I can get for $0.89, which is about 1/10 the price per ounce of these newest offerings... Caveat emptor.
