They're very sweet but when I go to my local traditional Mexican restaurant and don't feel like alcohol I'll have one. Tamarind, Lime & Grapefruit are my faves.

Yeah, same here.

Some of them are way too "flavory" though. Still, better than the usual 50g of HFCS or sugar that I could easily gulp in a few minutes.

I particularly like the pineapple coconut flavor.

Cherry Pepsi or Cherry Coke.

I used to really love Dr. Pepper and Mountain Dew but they've started to taste too sweet for me.

On a rare occasion I'll drink an orange soda.

I recently went to NH and my friend tried to trick me into getting that. I didnt fall for it though.

My contribution to the weird local sodas

Marketing at work.

Dr P and Pibb are my 'go-to's' so from worst to first:

Diet Dr. Pepper

Dr. Pepper 10 & Pibb Zero

Dr Pepper

Dr Pepper Cherry Vanilla

Pibb Xtra

Pibb Xtra Cherry Vanilla
I agree with the slogan that Diet Dr. Pepper tastes more like the regular version than any other diet soda.

Unfortunately, it tastes like regular Dr. Pepper.

So is it necessary to add so much sugar to softdrinks? I drink coke/pepsi, and feel there is room for a softdrink without so much sugar (or other sweetners). They add acids to make the drink tart anyway, negating some of the sweetness.

If you guys want to bitch about soda take that shit to the fast food thread. This is the thread for worshiping at the altar of cola goodness.

Re: slop101's Official Soda / Cola Thread!

Mt Dew Pitch black, which is my all-time favorite soda, seems to be back, so I'm very happy about that.

In general, Dr Pepper was my mainstay, but sometimes I just buy whichever 2l soda with caffeine in it is on sale that week. This varies my soda habit quite a bit...

I got some at a specialty soda shop in San Diego.

Every now and then I'll pick up a 1.5liter pineapple at Wallyworld for $1.25.

I gave up soda (and caffeine and alcohol) at my wedding four months ago (since I couldn't start eating healthy until after the honeymoon) I swear my skin tingles whenever my husband drinks a soda (he's a heavy soda drinker). I sometimes stroke the can lovingly

Add ice.

I think orange juice is too strong too. I prefer to water it down.

Lime and grapefruit are my favorites as well, but as far as grapefruit soda goes, nothing beats Ting out of Jamaica. They also make a pink grapefruit version.

It's from North Carolina. I'm not a fan of the corn syrup-sweetened version (I bought a 2-liter on vacation a couple of years ago, which was a rude awakening), but the bottled version (made with real sugar) is always available at one of the specialty shops here in Ohio.

Re: slop101's Official Soda / Cola Thread!

After decades of soda being my only beverage, I kicked the habit several years ago. But then I married a woman who drinks Coke pretty much non-stop (how she stays 90# is a scientific mystery). So now I'm back, pretty much like them all, switch from Coke to Dew to Pepsi to Pepper/Phibb near daily.

Oh, and I think I'm forever done with diet soda. The taste is ok, but you're not helping your body by drinking it over regular soda.

Unfortunately, you missed out on the good stuff. The new owners dumbed-down the taste about five years ago. It's much less complex, and more sweet. It's like the difference between Coca Cola and Kroger cola.

Mexican Coke is my favorite, and we got some original formula Dr Pepper which is great. I'm going on an errand next door to a Mediterranean market later today, so I'm going to stop in and buy some tamarind soda. Yum.

Damn, really? Hope they come out with a 'retro' style eventually. But that explains why when I bring it up, people who had it a long time ago talk about how it's very bitter, that they didn't like it, and I feel that although it's not as sweet as Coke, it's not super bitter- we were talking about two different drinks essentially.

I wish Mountain Dew would bring back Distortion. That stuff rivaled regular Dew as my favorite flavor. I blame the packaging for being too similar to regular Mtn Dew to win the "dewmocracy."

I think there was a thread here years ago that mentioned them.
We were in New Orleans several weeks ago and there was a great store there called Rocket Fizz ( http://rocketfizz.com/ ) that had a lot of those flavors and a ton of others ones.

I made my own six pack but didn't venture into the crazy flavored sodas. I mostly stuck with various kinds of colas. If that store was around me I would eventually try every one of them.

I especially love colas but I have gotten where I don't really drink Coke, Pepsi, etc. I prefer the specialty colas you find at Whole Foods and places like that. they use cane sugar and just taste better all around.

Anyone know if there is a good "soda of the month" club?

I love Baja Blast at Taco Bell but the cans don't taste the same to me. Still good, though.

As far as local sodas go, I like Thomas Kemper root beer.

Re: slop101's Official Soda / Cola Thread!

The Mediterranean market didn't have any tamarind soda. The lady said that it's mostly drunk during Ramadan, so they don't have it yet.

I decided to try kvass instead. Soda made from fermented black bread -- what could possibly go wrong?

Re: slop101's Official Soda / Cola Thread!

I never really had much soda as a kid. Parents were always on us to drink juice. As a young adult, I drank a good amount of it. Mr. Pibb, when I could find it, and Cherry Coke were the drink of choice. If I was at a bar, the drink was regular coke mixed with something. Pepsi tastes absolutely terrible when mixed with alcohol, by the way.
Nowadays, I have cut way back on my soda intake. I usually drink water now instead of a soda. Really the only time I will have a soda is when I go out to eat and they have one of those Coke Freestyle machines. Then I usually get a coke zero with cherry, or another flavor. Lately I have been doing some of the fanta zero or sprite zero flavors.
