Leap Day Babies

If you were an expectant parent and your child's due date was in late February or early March in a leap year, would you take any steps to avoid a leap day birth? would you take any steps to ensure a leap day birth?

I just went to a 4 year old's birthday party. She was born 4 years ago on February 29th. It's no big deal. You just celebrate on the 28th most years.

Re: Leap Day Babies

I would think a Leap Day birthday would be kind of fun to have. You could choose which day you wanted to celebrate it on--the 28th or the 1st--and you could have a half-birthday celebration every August 29. That's what a friend of mine whose oldest was born on February 29th did.

In all seriousness, I would never choose an elective C-section or induction. Due dates are not expiration dates. The baby will be born when it's born.

Re: Leap Day Babies

I think I'd rather have a February 29th birthday than one on December 25th.

I didn't mean to suggest that people would willingly have a c-section or an induction just because the parents wanted a specific birthday, but if you knew you were going to have one anyway around that time, would you specifically choose Feb 29? or would you specifically avoid Feb 29?

You would get to make dad jokes about them only being 1, 2, 3 until you die!

Re: Leap Day Babies

Ontario mom born on Leap Day has baby on Leap Day — what are the odds?

I think it would be kinda neat to have a birthday on Leap day.

But are you the type who doesn't want to make a fuss on your birthday? For people who want to go out with friends and do things on their birthday, I could see that being annoying as everyone is too busy with holiday hassles and plans to worry about you. I'm thinking more along the lines of pre-marriage and kids, like 21st birthday.
