Otterville the Aging Community

We're not getting any younger folks. It seems more threads are popping out about conditions and health related issues. Here in Central Florida I play golf with old timers most of the time. I wonder if Otterville will soon become a community where we will discuss things in milligrams, 529 prepays for the grandkids, and Summer leases in Florida, just like my golf outings.

Re: Otterville the Aging Community

I've been here since I was 15. This is pretty-much the only place online where I socialize. I think there was a period of 3-4 years that I wasn't on here much. Other than that, I'm on here an hour or two daily.

I'm 32.

I have timeshares in Florida, but I'm thinking of visiting in January instead of summer. Also, my back hurts a little right now, and I think I need to drink more prune juice. But I'm not old . . .

I guess I'm old since I understood every part of this. Started here when I was 30, now 42.

I was 28 when I started here and now I'm 45. I'll probably still be around until I'm 80, moaning about the new emoji or something.

What these folks do is lease the property in the Summertime and go north to WI,MI, MN, OH, NY, etc.

Ohhhh . . . so . . .you're saying I didn't get it, and therefore, NOT OLD. (if you say it just means I'm not a Floridian, I'll take that as a compliment as well. Not crazy. )

I honestly don't feel that much different than when I first started posting here at 28 years old. Except I have some more money, and slightly more rickety bones and muscles.

31 when I joined. Now I'm 41. Haven't really done too much but get older. I'm not sure whether to feel lucky or depressed that not much has changed in ten years.

Re: Otterville the Aging Community

You know, we keep debasing ourselves as being "older", acting like we're getting closer to being washed up or whatever, but for me (and I'm assuming most of you), at 44, compared to, say 28, I am better in almost every way. While I may be more sore, I am in much better shape now than I was then (mostly because I actually work at it now). I also have so much more knowledge and skills now than I did back then.

I am a much better guitar player than I used to be, a much better cook, MUCH better at pleasing the ladies (physically and emotionally), much better in social situations; better at picking up on social cues and listening/understanding, I can do actual construction/plumbing/gardening stuff around the house that I would have no clue about even while in my 30s. I'm just far more well-rounded, self-sufficient and better skilled at almost everything in every way that could be measured than I was 15 years ago, as I would hope most people would be. And I think I'll be even better still in anther 10 years. I'm assuming my decline will begin in my 60, when I'm too old to care about learning new things...

The problem is no one knows when anyone dies. Does anyone know if classicman is alive? Seriously.

I'm 48. My god. Agree with slop101. Everything is better for the most part.

I'm still wondering if RocShemp is still alive.

44 also, started in 2000. Maybe one of you whippersnappers can do the calculation on that. I don't understand the "new math".

At least we know TEK is still kicking around. The last regularly-scheduled absence lasted longer than usual.

Re: Otterville the Aging Community

Yeah, I've been posting here for fifteen/sixteen years.

Which is actually a significant chunk of my life. It's weird to think that I've been a member of the DVDTalk community longer than my thirteen years in K-12 school.
