Teen Dies After Drinking Racing Fuel (not Florida, but close)

Greenbrier, Tennessee: Teen May Have Died From Drinking Racing Fuel and Mountain Dew, Police Say

Linky: http://fox59.com/2016/01/26/police-t...-mountain-dew/

GREENBRIER, Tenn. (Jan. 26, 2016) – A Tennessee teenager who died last week may have consumed a mixture of racing fuel and Mountain Dew, police say.

Logan Stephenson, 16, died on Thursday. According to Greenbrier Police Chief K.D. Smith, Stephenson and a friend started drinking the concoction Wednesday. Stephenson was found unresponsive the next morning, reports WZTV.

“They noticed the color of his skin had changed and he started having a seizure. His hands started drawing up,” Smith told WZTV.

Stephenson’s friend was rushed to an area hospital. Police said he was in a coma.

Since the incident came to light, two other teens have admitted to drinking the same mixture of racing fuel and Mountain Dew. Police encouraged parents to talk to their children.

yeah, if you are a teenager and don't recognize that this could seriously harm or kill you, you probably aren't long for this world anyway.

Exactly. And I like the addition of Mountain Dew to this concoction - what did they think they were going to attain by drinking this combo?

Re: Teen Dies After Drinking Racing Fuel (not Florida, but close)

When I was a young adult (mid 80s), some friends of a guy that worked for my Dad swiped what they thought was moonshine, turned out it was anti-freeze. They were hospitalized for days, IIRC, the problem was that the anti-freeze (wood alcohol?) would be metabolized into formaldehyde, which could be tolerated and passed in small quantities but was fatal at high levels. So the treatment was to give them grain alcohol in sufficient quantities to keep them drunk for days, and the similar chemical structure between the two alcohols meant that they were competing for the same receptors, so it slowed the rate of metabolization for the wood alcohol. I always found that to be a simple but interesting approach, this story reminded me of it.

it's not the kids; it's the neglectful parents not warning their kids about the dangers of consuming racing fuel.

and to address that, there is a gofundme started on the family's behalf to raise awareness

https://www.gofundme.com/9g732dbd

The family would like donations to be sent to this gofundme or Greenbrier High School in Memory of Logan Shane Stephenson. The family will be meeting with the school to discuss how to disburse these funds. Their desire is that it will be used to educate children of the many dangers which they face which parents are not aware of and therefore not able to warn them.

Oh, for fuck's sake. "Idiocracy" is now officially a historical film.

Can we change thread title to "Dumb Fuck Teen Drinks Racing Fuel, Obviously Dies."

It's not the parents, either. Maybe it's the grandparents. It says right here:
"Their desire is that it will be used to educate children of the many dangers which they face which parents are not aware of and therefore not able to warn them.

See, the parents didn't know that drinking racing fuel was bad either, so there was NO WAY they could have warned their kids.

I'm pretty far up this ladder, and tomorrow will be telling my daughter that it isn't safe to drink molten lava. I've seen her looking at volcanoes a little funny lately.

21-Year-Old Freezes to Death After Leaving Party in Shorts and a Tank Top in -6-Degree Cold

http://www.people.com/article/wiscon...zen-identified

A 21-year-old woman froze to death in Wisconsin after leaving a house party wearing shorts, a tank top and no coat in weather that was -6 degrees, authorities say.

Elizabeth Luebke was found dead about 9 a.m. Sunday just a few blocks from the Milwaukee house where she was partying with friends, according to the Associated Press.

The Milwaukee County Medical Examiner's Office said Luebke had been "reportedly in the area for a concert," Fox6 News reports.

Surveillance video from a nearby business shows Luebke collapsing outside of a home at around 4:30 a.m., the AP reports.

Luebke was intoxicated and "not dressed for the elements" in shorts, tights and a tank top, the medical examiner told WTAQ. The AP added that she wasn't wearing a coat.

The temperature was around -5.8 degrees with a wind chill of -27.5 degrees when the passerby called 911, according to Fox6.

Luebke's mother, Kathryn Luebke, filed a missing person report and drove to Milwaukee after someone alerted her that she was unaccounted for, according to Fox6. Kathryn told police that her daughter had a history of alcohol abuse and had been hospitalized in October with a blood alcohol content of 0.40 percent – five times the legal limit to drive, the AP reported.

A friend told Fox6 that Luebke went by the name Lana Kane was was "really, really drunk" on Sunday and that "she got mad at her other friend and she stormed out" of the house party.

"She's a really sweet person," the friend told Fox6. "I hung out with her at another show when I went to Oshkosh. She's a really nice person – a really sweet person. It's really sad. She's only 21. Such a young age."

Temperatures in Wisconsin have been treacherous lately, a representative of the National Weather Service told WATQ, with windchill between -20 and -30 degrees.
