What exactly are you afraid of screwing up? I know you've mentioned aspergers before. Is it so bad that you question your ability to function out in the world? You seem like a smart enough guy and fairly self aware. Assuming Livonia is where you actually live, I would think that between Detroit, Ann Arbor, Lansing, Flint, Toldeo, etc., there's got to be some other opportunities out there for you besides living at home and working at Wal-Mart.

Way, way, way, way, way, way, way too late for me to do that. I can try to salvage at this point though.
When I referenced redoing my 20's I was speaking mostly about myself because that was the time in my life that I was unattached and free to do whatever, but instead I chose to stay put. It doesn't matter if you're 50, if there's nothing holding you back from making a change, there's no reason not to. Unless you want to live with your parents for the rest of your life.

So sorry about this Hokey. Sounds like you get her a great life. That unspoken bond is tough to be without. But you'll see her again..

Thank you sir

The wife and I are getting small tattoos of her paw print the weekend after next. We don't have children together so she was our baby (along with our other cat, who's older and confused/depressed over her loss).

And life goes on, and we slowly heal. Her passing doesn't change my longview optimism for life, but the last four days have just sucked nuts.

That's super cute, my fiancee has thought about doing that for our first dog.

Finally got a chance to read this. Kind of surprised this is how things are going for you but just goes to show....ya never really know a person (well, yeah I know it's the internet but, well...shit you know what I mean).

This past summer I lost an outstanding job, then 3 months later I lost my Mother. previous to those two things My Mother was struggling majorly with health issues but to an extent you would never know it. Never once thought she was going to pass and when it happened.....it was the most fucked up feeling I've ever had....just surreal and I'm still trying to come down from it.

I mean, she was everything to me and I DIDN'T even know it!! I never realized how much leaned on her and how just by talking to her she made "everything ok" even at my age - she was simply my best friend.

Snake, I'm just going to say it - life is in front of you at ALL times, you have to deal with it head on - there are no exceptions to this. Running isn't going to do a damn thing. There is no one solid answer to your problems but your life?? Motherfucker that's precious - you're alive and breathing for a reason LIVE IT UP - can't figure out what to do? Well you mentioned in a roundabout way that you have been successful and have made something of yourself - but if your foundation is weak then none of that appearance or material shit matters (well, material shit NEVER matters). Just clear your mind, live simple, and something will come to you.

The mind defaults to negativity - don't let it - fake your happiness if you have to - you do whatever it takes.

Rival said "Running isn't going to do a damn thing." I don't think Snake is running from anything; he is looking for something to run to. (I know that feeling.)

Doesn't matter either way...its the same. If you want to move somewhere because you absolutely have had enough of a certain location (I have been in that spot before as well) then so be it but looking for something to run to because your frustrated or had enough of your problems..running for that reason only (which is obviously the case) wont do anything. Sit back, relax, collect yourself and really think out what is best for you...without question give it a decent amount of time.

Today is my 32nd birthday. I've now been on this forum for more than half my life (plus 15 days). I need time to process this. It's not buy-a-shotgun-and-plastic-sheeting time yet (I'm courteous). But fuck. Something has to get better.

Well,'being a low-functioning man-child, half of the realities of adulthood which I should've handled a decade ago are still routed through my parents. Things like handling insurance, taxes, and you know ,other such things. The money is mine, mind. But they're doing lost of the heavy lifting. I still live off them like a parasite and don't pay for food, rent, utilities, and all of those other wonderful things in the adult world.

I vapor lock when there are subtle changes in my routine at work, I don't like crowds, and don't Exactly have sterling social skills.

You seem like a smart enough guy and fairly self aware.
I am, but within my fairly small niche of life. Book smarts don't equate to functionality in the real world, and being able to cite statistics and data doesn't translate to marketable skills.

Assuming Livonia is where you actually live, I would think that between Detroit, Ann Arbor, Lansing, Flint, Toldeo, etc., there's got to be some other opportunities out there for you besides living at home and working at Wal-Mart.
My inane excuses about the economy aside, I have to imagine that there are.

There's me. I'm the problem. Admitting that is a nice first step, but thereafter, I have to figure out how to fix it.

Yeah, well, they should've kicked me out. I'm certainly glad they didn't, but insulating myself in every way possible doesn't exactly help. They've certainly tried to push me, but I've always pushed back. What's the old joke? How many therapists does it take to change a lightbulb? Just one. But the lightbulb has to really want to change.

Re: Are you happy with your life?

I turn 47 tomorrow. I've done a lot in my life but I am in no way content, never mind "happy". I think this is normal for the most part, you always think you're gonna be the one to change the world when you're younger, then one day it's your 47th birthday and all you did was...what everyone else before you did. I was in a war, I got a daughter who is gorgeous, the end. Not much, not happy, but...something will go on after me that I was a piece of. Maybe that's all we're supposed to feel.
