Looks like a great idea - I wonder if Mcd's will take part?

They already shot it down with an offer to promote real peace issues around the world instead of comparing a burger war to the harsh realities of real war that people around the world face.

Only one location? I am only 2 and 1/2 hours away from Atlanta but I think I would just drive to the local BK and McD and just smash their burgers together instead.

It's ok, a potential pairing of this epic magnitude deserved it's own thread!

Overwrought website is overwrought. No text-only, no peace.

I'm sorry to ramble, that website gave me a ministroke.

Re: The McWhopper - will Mcdonald's play ball?

Why would anyone want to smother a Whopper in Thousand Island dressing? It works for McDonalds because their burgers are so bland you need something to spice it up, but the Whopper is a passably decent sandwich. You'd just wash out the taste.

Re: The McWhopper - will Mcdonald's play ball?

Hasn't Burger King been doing better than Mickey D's in sales lately? You'd think McDonald's wouldn't want any additional bad press. What's the harm in saying yes? How does it hurt their brand?

So much for McDonald's "Love" commercials, heh?

Re: The McWhopper - will Mcdonald's play ball?

I'm going to go out and buy a Big Mac and a Whopper and make my own McWhopper right now!

Spoiler:
Not really. The thought did cross my mind, but I don't feel like driving to two places and paying for two sandwiches.

I tweeted to the CEO, told him way to be a killjoy on a day when many people would appreciate even a little bit of fun/good news.

I think McD's response is absolutely appropriate. They saw this as the publicity stunt it was. Best response is to graciously rise above it and just give money to charity. Well played.

Yeah, but they could easily have some fun with it and get some good publicity as well.

I think the absolute opposite. Rise above it by becoming part of it...its done in a day and you've got some good publicity. This makes me want less McD's...and more BK. Not that I eat at either much...but still.

I only eat at McD's a few times a month...guess I'll stop going there.

That's silly thinking. McDonald's is the industry leader and always has been. BK has been chasing them for fifty years. When BK puts on a publicity stunt like this, it's all for their gain, not mutually beneficial. Even if everything were even, it's still putting BK on an even plane with McD, and that benefits BK a lot more than McD. But it wouldn't be an even plane since it was BK's idea and they proposed putting one of the tiny 1 oz McD hamburger patties atop of one of their 4 oz patty and larger bun which would certainly make their product look much larger and more desirable then the McD product in all the "free publicity" that might be generated.
Certainly the donation suggested by McDonald's would generate more money for charity. Not only that, but McDonald's regular everyday charity The Ronald McDonald house is a really good and useful one that I've seen benefit several of my patients when they've had to tavel to a tertiary hospital for major surgery requiring an extended stay. It's made a very difficult time for families a lot less stressful.

No, this shouldn't be the reason you stop going to McDonald's any more. You should not go there because the food is disgusting and unhealthy.

While McDonald's struggles, Burger King reports strongest North American sales increase in a decade

Re: The McWhopper - will Mcdonald's play ball?

You're the industry leader until you're in second place.
You may be a struggling industry leader devoid of new ideas and taking record losses, but you're still the leader until you aren't.
