YAPT: Yet Another Pronunciation Thread

This thread is inspired by this issue popping up twice in my life in a matter of days ...

How do you pronounce the name of this candy?

Re: YAPT: Yet Another Pronunciation Thread

On a similar note I always pronounced Nutella as "nut ella". Just a day or two ago I saw a commercial where they pronounced it "new tella". Go figure.

As to the OP's post, is there more than one way to pronounce Reese's Pieces?!

Re: YAPT: Yet Another Pronunciation Thread

I'm confused at how else someone would pronounce this as well. Not only does it look straight forward, isn't Reese's said fairly often in commercials? Not just for Pieces, but for the Peanut Butter Cups too.

Re: YAPT: Yet Another Pronunciation Thread

I've heard the last 'e' in Reese's said differently.

Rees-IS vs. Rees-EES

Re: YAPT: Yet Another Pronunciation Thread

It rhymes with "greasy feces."

But not really.

Re: YAPT: Yet Another Pronunciation Thread

I've always rhymed them, like REE-sez PEE-sez.

I have heard people say REE-seez, though.

Re: YAPT: Yet Another Pronunciation Thread

Wow, quite a few people before somebody posted the two pronunciations!

Yes, the debate is whether it is ree-sez pee-sez OR rees-eez pees-eez.

Re: YAPT: Yet Another Pronunciation Thread

I can sort of understand there being some confusion on how to pronounce someone's name as many surnames can be pronounced differently but has there been anyone, ever, to pronounced pieces as "pees-eez"?

When you figure that both words are supposed to rhyme there's really only one way to pronounce Reese's Pieces.

Re: YAPT: Yet Another Pronunciation Thread

I don't really get how anyone would pronounce Reese (without the possessive) "ree-see", so that pronunciation still makes no sense to me. In addition to the rhyming thing mentioned by GoldenJCJ.

Weirdos.

I know how to pronounce it from that commercial with E.T. like 30 years ago. (Well it wasn't E.T. but some purple somethingorother)

Yes, yes there has been. Many, many people actually. (see below)

Weirdos.
This. The really strange thing that I have noticed is the incorrect pronunciation (long E, long E) has carried BACK over to their other products. People call them Ree-sees Peanut Butter Cups.

I wouldn't say they only come in grey. They come in (and on) all sorts of things ... But seriously, there are about 50 different shades. (While they initially have a very titilating and shocking flavor, they really arent that good.)
