Soccer cleats

My kid starts soccer next week. He's 10 and need some decent cleats. I can't seem to find any below 50-60. Seems a little step for cleats or am I just out of touch. Lol

Re: Soccer cleats

Since it is a shoe he is going to be running in a lot he should defiantly try it on first $50 for a sports specific shoe seems fairly reasonable.

Re: Soccer cleats

You should be able to find a beginner level cleat for less than that. Keep in mind, lower price = lower quality. I know it is tough dropping big bucks on a new sport that your kid may not stick with.

I would be very hesitant to order online without him trying on the specific brand as sizes and comfort levels vary greatly by brand. (I love a 9.5 in an ASICS shoe, but find Reeboks and Nikes to be terribly uncomfortable until I hit a 10.5 which is too long. Additionally, I think ASICS tend to be equally comfortable from low price points to high. Nike and Reebok are as comfortable as the boxes they come in unless you want to drop big bucks.)

Another option would be to check with other soccer parents to see if a bigger kid may have outgrown a gently used pair. If you are really ambitious, you could organize a used equipment swap for the league!

Re: Soccer cleats

$50-60 is a pretty average price for cleats. I'm not surprised at all by that price. Just don't let him walk around town in them. It's one of my pet peeves. It ruins the cleats walking all over town on hard floors in cleats. So many parents around my neck of the woods let their kids do it.

Re: Soccer cleats

Do you have a Dick's sporting goods nearby? Often they have a "equipment day" before all the leagues start where you can get stuff at a great discount. Sometimes the league or coach works with them and hands out coupons as well.

You should be able to go and get a new set of shin guards, shorts, cleats, socks, and even a ball for about $60 total (less for younger kids, more for older). The cleats should be about $25 for age 10. Often name brands like umbro, nike, etc too (they are trying to get that brand loyalty going in the kids young )

Re: Soccer cleats

Looking at the Dick's site there's a number of boots available in the $20 - 40 range. If his favorite player is Messi he'll want Adidas, if he prefers CRonaldo he'll want a pair of Nikes.

You could also try soccer.com or worldsoccershop.com.

I wouldn't spend more than $50 on a pair of boots he'll wear for one season.

Re: Soccer cleats

Don't waste your money on fancy, store-bought cleats. Make your own by pushing nails through the bottom of old sneakers.

I CANNOT stress this enough, make sure the nails are pointed down, not up.

Re: Soccer cleats

Big 5 and sporting stores like it usually have cheap pairs for 17.99 to 19.99. If you wait too long, though, they end up only having pink ones in stock.

Re: Soccer cleats

The youth soccer package at the top of the page is what I was talking about above. Saves like $10 per item over buying individually. Of course, if he has the other stuff just buy what he needs.

Re: Soccer cleats

Try Academy too if you have one of those around. They usually have a separate isle with all kinds of shoes marked down.

Re: Soccer cleats

Don't buy cheap. They have to fit well. That's the most important part. You don't want your kid to have blisters. I always preferred Adidas soccer cleats but that's just me.

Big 5 puts together packages of cleats, shin guards, and a ball for less than $60. That's where I got my daughter's stuff.

Hopefully off the feet of some kid waiting to be picked up from practice. A good knock to the base of the skull takes all the fight out of the little ones.

Re: Soccer cleats

$50 or $60? My older son will be a senior and wants $315 soccer shoes.

For the 10 year old just go to the local sporting good stores and see what's on sale. Or look on eBay for used soccer shoes.

I thought I'd try a good kidney punch first
