Re: Guacamole: Peas or no peas?

Where I grew up, there was only one mexican restaurant 20 miles away. It was rarely open, mainly due to the family that ran it was running on poor health. 20 miles away in a different direction was a Taco Johns. While I loved the food that was cooked in a dingy restaurant by Mexicans, Taco Johns was also quite good.

Fast forward to today, I live in a city. If I want good Mexican food, I'll find a hole in the wall that makes something excellent. If I want something different that still has hints of Mexican in it, I'll go somewhere else, including Taco Bell or Johns.

Like Obi-Wan said, they can coexist without being the same thing.

Probably because of the beef flavoring.

Growing up poor as fuck McD's was a fucking luxury. I guess that never went away. I don't eat there if I can help it but when I do I sort of know exactly what to get and it will always be fries with something else. Their iced coffees are pretty good but I get the sugarless one and that's a vanilla flavored iced one.

Yeah, I am right there with you. I love those little cheeseburgers that are like 89 cents each, I get several of them and call it lunch on the road.

and yes, their fries are STILL good, even though they are nothing like the McDonald'ss fries we had in the 1980's (those were still better)

I don't remember the 80s fries. I was a 1986 kid. All I remember is salty to the point where I loved them. Not too salty but salty enough.

Most places Cheeseburgers are a dollar now. They raised the price of the McDouble and the regular Cheesburger took its place on the dollar menu.

Re: Guacamole: Peas or no peas?

I also liked their McGriddles but I haven't had one in years. I don't even know if they still sell them. The McRib was cool this last time it came out but was horrid the previous time.

Wow, what a segue. We went from shitty guacamole recipes to real or fake tacos and now we're at fucking McD's? I said goddamn.

Fried in beef lard, and the salt had sugar mixed with it
They don't make em like that anymore

Either I didn't notice the 11 cents difference or thought it was maybe an increase in tax or they are still that price at my MCD

I didn't see the single patty cheeseburger listed here, only the double

https://fastfoodmenuprice.com/mcdonalds-prices/

hmmmm, it's been maybe 6-7 weeks since I had one, time go to back and check the price

Re: Guacamole: Peas or no peas?

And here's the short version what is and isn't authentic MExican food. I will disagree on the Menudo and Pozole. I eat that even on the weekdays - it's so freakin' good. Menudo is beef tripe. We add hominy to ours, chopped onions, lemon or lime, and crushed oregano. It is the bomb, yo!

Re: Guacamole: Peas or no peas?

without that article you couldn't figure it out? or that just for gringos? or hipster gringos?

oh wait, that article was actually hosted on Yahoo, there is just something entirely wrong with getting food advice from Yahoo, especially on anything 'authentic', no?

Yeah, it's not aimed at me. I already know what's legit and isn't. It's for the gringos. It also just says how to spot fake mexican food. It doesn't specify what is authentic, with exception to Menudo and Pozole being a weekend staple.

Also, from a non-gringo perspective, that article is pretty spot-on. I vouch for it.

Re: Guacamole: Peas or no peas?

Had what I assume was New-Mex yesterday in Idaho. Had this Chile Verde Burritio. What's odd is that it's a medium but the way they stack them side by side like enchiladas. The braised pork was legit but the chile verde was hardly green or spicy.

Where are you? I'm in Rexburg. The food is almost universally awful here, but the Mexican place on the edge of town has legit tacos. By legit, I mean I like them and no cheese.

Pocatello. There's a couple of spots left to explore in terms of tacos but the only one that I know that has them is this spot called Jacalito.

Re: Guacamole: Peas or no peas?

I'd never even heard of peas in guacamole until I saw this thread. I use salt, pepper, onion, and lime juice. I hate peppers and cilantro, so I leave those out.

Re: Guacamole: Peas or no peas?

Indeed. Thing is, I like peas. A lot. I even put them in my spaghetti leftovers before I fry them up in a skillet.

But in guac? Nope nope nope.
