Re: Holy Heat Wave Batman!, How hot is it where you are?

Southern California weather sucks right now, but I'll put up with it 'cause in a few months we're gonna hear about record snowfall and bitter cold in the rest of the country while our dilemma will be "Shit, I can get by on shorts and a T-shirt during the day, but I'm wondering if I'll need a jacket after dark..."

Today was the 2nd highest usage of power ever recorded by the dept. of water and power.

They said to conserve so I did our part and moved our thermostat from 71 to 72.

Power outages. High heat. Some schools sending kids home. I can not wait until this stuff goes away. I'm sick of this heat. Too many years of nothing but HEAT! I want cool, cold rainy weather like we used to have.

Should just pull an Al Bundy

Re: Holy Heat Wave Batman!, How hot is it where you are?

Yeah, the last time we had genuinely cold weather was back in 2013 - like 2 weeks in December. No rain, just cold. The last time I remember rainy weather that was substantial was late in 2009 into January 2010. That's it.

Fuck, it's been a while.

Re: Holy Heat Wave Batman!, How hot is it where you are?

I've been living in the city little over 5 years now. Before that I was in the mountain area of San Diego and I remember actually having to use the HEATER a lot. My Mother still lives up there and not once has she had to use a heater these past 5-6 years. Fact she has replaced the heater use with the AC use. I remember it actually snowing on occasion. Not any more.

I'm all for El Nino but it would be nice if some arctic air came with it.

The heat isn't what's bothering me right now, it's the humidity. Gross.

And yeah, I can't remember the last time I needed a warm jacket when going outside, maybe 2013?

I'll bet the highest usage ever was July 22, 2006 is a day that will live in infamy, when LA was 115 and so was OC I remember going through the Valley at 11pm that night and it was still over 100 degrees. When was the actual day of highest power usage? Anyone?

Yeah, and we just know the power companies will rake in record, record profits when we all get our $1000+ electric bills, right?

Actually those "other" people, because I'll suffer rather than fork over that much for *my* electric bill.

Heat has never bothered me the way the humidity does. I don't recall this area ever being humid until recently (as in a number of years). But, holy crap, blah!! I took a shower to get the stickiness off me a few hours ago, and I feel like I need to do it again. So much for water conservation!

Re: Holy Heat Wave Batman!, How hot is it where you are?

Yesterday Walmart had kiddie pools out in garden center. They were selling like hot cakes.

Right now it's Grey and down right monsoonal looking. Humidity is just down right unbearable right now.
I smelled rain few hours ago but nothing fell from the sky. It's 102 right now and trying to deal with it but I'm gonna have to turn the AC back on. I gave it a rest because I dont need it blowing out (on 3 days straight) nor do I want my bill getting crazy.
Right now using ice packs on my neck and eating popsicles. Cooling me off a bit.

I believe that was the week where parts of the Valley were as hot if not hotter than Death Valley. I was at a bus stop on the corner of Devonshire and Balboa (either after picking up my weekly stash of comics, or going home from a movie I saw at the Mann 9 Cinema), and I look up at the temperature digital sign above Hughes, and did a double-take when I saw it flicker between 114/115...I had NEVER seen a temp reading like that before. I grew up in the San Fernando Valley (my parents' backyard is basically the Pacoima Flood Channel), so I know hot...and hoo boy, that week was one for the books (when Reseda is hotter than Death Valley, that is just all sorts of wrong).

Was sunny with a high in the low 80s yesterday here in Florida. Loved it.

Well let's hope we get some rain later on that's not the bi-product of a hurricane.

Rain moves into Southern California, thanks to former Hurricane Linda

Re: Holy Heat Wave Batman!, How hot is it where you are?

Yesterday was another hot and muggy day. Today is rain and cool temps and I am loving it.
I cant remember when it was this cool. I hope this continues because I am sick of the heat waves and no rain.

Bring on that little bastard El Niño!
