I bought a subscription to a daily newspaper, starting tomorrow. Am I nuts?

I figure I can wake up early, leisurely read it while eating breakfast. I estimates a 10% chance of this succeeding. Anybody else still get physical papers?

I did until about a year ago. No mas. Although when I miss the feel of a good paper, I usually pick up the city one on Sunday's. But there just isn't too much practicality with newspaper print anymore.

My wife gets the Philadelphia Inquirer after 28 years here. She wants the news. I've had many discussions wit her but none that will remove the papers from my house

Re: I bought a subscription to a daily newspaper, starting tomorrow. Am I nuts?

I've thought about getting it. Not that I want the paper but I just want online access and it's cheaper getting a physical paper than just paying strictly for online. If I could figure out a way to donate the actual paper so I don't have to be bothered to put it in the recycle bin everyday I would do that.

Yeah, that's a bonus, that it includes access to articles online.

Re: I bought a subscription to a daily newspaper, starting tomorrow. Am I nuts?

Although I check online news throughout the day, I still prefer to have the physical paper. It's been a long-standing, comfortable routine to sit on the couch in the morning with fresh coffee and leisurely peruse the printed page. One advantage for me is I tend to read articles that I wouldn't see online since they're not presented by default on the page I'm looking at. I guess the paper keeps me more well-rounded. Bottom line though is that I like it. And it's easier to hold than the iPad.

We get a daily newspaper. I wouldn't want to do without it, though I fear the extinction of delivered newspapers will come sooner rather than later. I don't think I could stand to regularly read the news on a screen of some kind.

I got the Sunday paper for a long time. I'd read it Sunday morning, and then I'd nibble at it for a few days. I finally gave up a few years ago. I wasn't nibbling at it anymore. The papers just accumulated.

I miss waking up early Sunday and reading the paper...I'll run to the nearest gas station and grab one occasionally. Might start subscribing again just for nostalgia's sake. It is nice sitting on the patio reading a physical paper rather than my iPad.

One of us, my gf or I, will usually pick up a Sunday paper for the ads and coupons, but we don't subscribe.

We get most of our news either online or from CNN, and daily papers tended to pile up unread way back when I used to get them.

And without Calvin & Hobbs, The Far Side, or Bloom County, the comics sections SUCK.

Nope. I rarely read the paper but when I do I go to the library. I do subscribe to a couple of magazines that my libraries don't have like: Inc. and Fast Company.

We get the Sunday paper delivered. Everybody flips through it, but it's mostly for the coupons.

If you're thinking of subscribing to the paper, check those Groupon-type sites. They often have good deals. I got a 12-month subscription to the Sunday paper for $9.

The weekly Sunday paper and that is it. I used to love the Sunday Section when it was loaded with a ton of stuff. It gets thinner and thinner each year.

I get the WSJ daily and the NYT on Sunday. I'd subscribe to more if I had the time to read them.

I subscribed and read until my kid was born. Now my mornings are too hectic to read it. I still get it, I need to switch over to the digital only sub.

WTF? WSJ is cheap as hell, I'll get that too. And the Sunday NY Times.

Edit: Added The Economist and The New Yorker. I'll have a lot of reading material for the next three months.

I gave up on The Economist and Blooomberg's Business Week too. I'll read a few free articles online.

Seriously, are you even trying?

No neighbor that would want it?

The office?

Kid's school?

Coffee shop or restaurant you stop at?

Unless everyone in your home works at home and hates any contact with other people, I can't imagine not being able to put it to use.

That's the point, I don't want to try. I don't want to see it at my door/in my driveway in the morning as I look at it as more of an annoyance than anything.

Although it wouldn't be a bad idea to drop it off at McDonald's or Starbucks or something like that in the morning but I rarely make stops at those on the way to work.

Print is dead.
People who read print are dead also.
You're helping contribute to the killing of trees etc.. You are not helping the environment.
By the time you get the paper the "news" is no longer current.

Having said all of that.. I sincerely hope you enjoy your newspaper.

Re: I bought a subscription to a daily newspaper, starting tomorrow. Am I nuts?

I tried to cancel my subscription recently because the subscription fee was getting out of hand - $70 every 8 weeks. To get me to stay, they offered me a 25% discount, then a 50% discount. I said I would stay if they gave me the new subscriber rate for $89/year which includes online access. They said fine.
