Burger toppings you CAN'T do without

Making up for the ill fated 'burger toppings you CAN do without' poll because of no multiple voting option.

So, what toppings are a must on your burger? Vote away.

Re: Burger toppings you CAN'T do without

I selected three. Cheese(Provolone), onions(I'll take 'em any which way), and other(Old Bay). Sometimes I also like bacon and lettuce, maybe green peppers or jalapenos if I'm feeling saucy. But the above three are essentials.

When the mood turns spicy, pepperjack cheese and a spicy bar-b-q sauce is pretty awesome.

Why is "hot dog" an option? I've never heard of anyone putting a hot dog on a hamburger.

Left off two of my favorites - a fried egg and onion straws.

Re: Burger toppings you CAN'T do without

Not every time, but once in a while I like a very thin layer of peanut butter on a burger. Substitutes for cheese.

Thank you......thankyouverymuch.

Re: Burger toppings you CAN'T do without

I don't like getting the same thing every time on a burger, so there's no one topping I always have to have. That said, my current favorite burger by a large margin is a chipotle one offered by a local burger joint. It has pepper jack cheese, chipotle mayo, deep fried jalapenos, lettuce and tomato. It is delicious.

Lettuce, tomato, pickles, and cheddar. I do not like avocado slices, but I do like guacamole on a burger sometimes.

The standard: Lettuce, Tomatoes, Onions, Cheddar Cheese, Mayo and Mustard. If avocado and a fried egg are an option, I have those thrown on as well.

I first heard about hot dogs on burgers back in the '80s, from the "bacon burger dog" mentions on The Cosby Show. Still have never tried one.

As for the question, usually almost anything goes, so I'm more defined by what I will not tolerate on my burger: mayo (and mayo-based sauces), mustard, mushrooms. All three are disgusting.

It's Burger Week in my city. I'm going to try one or two of these:

Re: Burger toppings you CAN'T do without

The only correct answer is cheese. All others* are optional and highly delicious, but not always good on a burger. Cheese is always good. Always.

* Hot dogs and a few others are exceptions. You know which ones they are, weirdo.

Raw onions, a bit of lettuce and cheese only.
Ketchup is an abomination.

Re: Burger toppings you CAN'T do without

I can do without any and all toppings, if the burger and bun are good. I'll typically go for the usual: lettuce, tomato, onion, cheese. Definitely onion and cheese, if I can only pick two.

Re: Burger toppings you CAN'T do without

Sometimes I like a simple burger. Sometimes I like a mushroom burger. Sometimes a teriyaki with pineapple. Sometimes onions, sometimes not. Bacon? That usually sounds good. Avocado? Messy but sometimes it's just the thing.

Part of what makes burgers great is the variety, in my opinion.

There is no perfect burger. The best burger is the one I feel like eating right now and that may change tomorrow.

Re: Burger toppings you CAN'T do without

I voted only for "American Cheese". If I get a burger without cheese I'm more disappointed than if I miss out on anything else.

I also want some sort of condiment and if I'm eating out I prefer whatever the house specialty is. If I'm making it myself I cycle between the main three condiments.

Lettuce and onions are usually on their but I can live without either.

My usual go to burger has two patties, cheese (american, pepper jack or cheddar), house sauce which is almost always thousand island dressing, lettuce and grilled onions.

Re: Burger toppings you CAN'T do without

I don't like the wording of this thread because I like a lot of different types of burgers so I can do without any specific topping.

And in my vote, I just selected which toppings are on my favorite type of burger: a bacon cheddar cheese burger with lettuce, tomato, and then a little ketchup/mustard/mayo together on one bun (although I usually substitute special sauce for all 3 condiments when it's an option).

Here in Atlanta, we have a lot of popular burger places but my favorite local place is a 2-location restaurant called The Vortex which serves a wide variety of burgers. The last time I was there, I got the "Holy Guacamole Burger" which had jack cheese and their in-house guacamole on it. It was great as-is so I added nothing else to it.

Re: Burger toppings you CAN'T do without

I voted for American and Cheddar cheese. It can be either one, no big whoop.

I have been known to make a burger with nothing more than pattie, bun, and cheese.

Yep, if the meat is even just mediocre to average tasting, I don't need anything besides cheese.

Poll option should just be 'cheese', as almost any type will do, and variety is great.

A burger without cheese is un-American.

I'll skip the bun before I skipped cheese.

In fact, I eat almost all of my burgers without the bun or open face.

Re: Burger toppings you CAN'T do without

I like having fried onions and pickle slices on my burgers and occasionally some ketchup, but they're not required. I can eat a plain burger any time, with a little salt sprinkled on it. But no cheese--ever!
