One food group to rule them all

Let's say you can only pick one food group from the old-fashioned (and outdated) food pyramid, except for the top (sugar, oils):

Putting aside any nutritional issues (that is, you don't get fatter or unhealthier in this example), which one food group would you pick to eat exclusively? (You can use spices and oils for garnish if needed)

And how long would you last before you gave up and ate from the other food groups?

As much as I would like to eat bread or meat or cheese exclusively, I'd probably get pretty tired real quick. I could probably eat only vegetables but I doubt I would last more than a month.

To paraphrase the fast food commercial: "I'll have the meats!"

Re: One food group to rule them all

pizza

That has something from every food group. So pizza is truly the one food group to rule them all.

Re: One food group to rule them all

Me too, but at least that group would include beans and nuts.

It would probably only take a day or 2 before I would break the diet for vegetables and fruit, and then another day for grains.

I already limit dairy and sweets, so that would be easy.

You wouldn't be allowed a hamburger. Just the patty.

Re: One food group to rule them all

This is a tough one. My diet consists almost entirely of legumes, yogurt, and fresh fruit.

I would probably go with fruit. Healthy, but better tasting than veggies.

Eating too much fruit isn't healthy though because they are loaded with sugar.

Eating too many veggies wouldn't be a problem. Eating too much fruit will make you fat and diabetic.

Re: One food group to rule them all

If disregarding nutrition, I guess I'd probably go with the dairy section.
