Things you just learned that blew your mind?

well, maybe not blew it, but damn near had you say "wow". a fact or tidbit perhaps that you never knew about before...

so i just found out my mom, now 70, loved Star Wars. i was literally blown away because i never knew that and couldn't believe i never knew that considering we talk about movies and entertainment quite often. now, she has no interest in seeing and probably will never see the sequels, but just knowing she "loved" the original...blew my fucking mind!!

Re: Things you just learned that blew your mind?

I learned that the mom of a guy on the Internet enjoyed one of the most popular movies of all time.

Re: Things you just learned that blew your mind?

I read the reply to the post of a guy who said his mom enjoyed one of the most popular movies of all time.

Also, there's too much talk about things getting blown in this thread. Mixing that talk while talking about your mom is kinda weird.

I've just realized that I'm making the fourth post in a thread largely about Star Wars. And it's almost May....

This forum is so lame. "OldBoy's mom loves Star Wars." Yeah, like that wasn't all over the internet in 2009. Hey, did you hear that that Peter Jackson is going to make The Hobbit into a movie trilogy?

You know what would blow my mind? If the inane thread master would actually make a thread that isn't inane.

Re: Things you just learned that blew your mind?

I have an actual legit response to this... a couple months ago someone at work mentioned eating a banana upside down. I had never heard of that, and always got mad when the "stem" of a banana was too short to grip and peel or when the banana wasn't ripe yet. By opening it upside down, just pinching the bottom splits it pretty easily, even on an unripe banana.

I had no clue at all, and i'm annoyed at all the difficult times I had peeling bananas.

I just learned fairly recently that on the gas gauge of every car, there is a tiny little arrow pointing to which side of the car the gas cap is on.

Re: Things you just learned that blew your mind?

I recently learned (and still have a hard time accepting!) that - were its light visible - the Andromeda galaxy would appear three times the size of the moon in our sky. The only reason it isn't is because the light over the distance is too dim. Okay, I know the Andromeda galaxy is freakin' huge, but it's also over 2 million light years away! I just can't wrap my head around something that distant still appearing that large (if the light were visible). Yup. Mind blown.

Not every car. My Infiniti didn't have one. My Ford does.

I learned that Oldboy was literally blown away. That's a shame.

The can opener was invented 50 years after the can.

I just learned this yesterday

So, how many years did it take to eat all the 50-years-worth-of-canned food that had been stockpiled while waiting for the can opener to appear?

I suggest a thread title change to "Things that damn near had you say "wow"".

Do you have a source on that?

325,851 gallons per year / 365 days per year = 893 gallons per day

Assuming the average household size is 4 people:

893 gallons per day / 4 people = 223 gallons per day per person

Who the heck is using 200+ gallons of water per day?

Re: Things you just learned that blew your mind?

I learned a few weeks ago that the same actor played Uncle Rico in Napolean Dynamite and Hollyfield (the guy who lived in the steam tunnels) in Real Genius.

Sounds to me like it blew your mind, and you just can't handle it.
