Re: Can you swim?

Not really, no. Never learned as a kid and I'm not particularly buoyant (aside from my personality...)

There's nothing to it, just move your arms and legs in the water.

Re: Can you swim?

Not particularly well, but I can get by. Swimming was a required class at my high school, which is where I picked up some real techniques, but I could always dog paddle.

Grew up in the inner city, was raised by a single mother and went to public school. As a kid I may not have known how to swim or ride a bike, but I knew how to use a switchblade and roll a joint.

I will teach you to ride a bike if you impart me with some street smarts.

"Oh, Jesus! I really wanted to learn how to swim. I swear to God I did."

I took swimming lessons as a teen but I was not particularly good at it. It's not like I grew up in Seattle where everyone knows how to swim.

Re: Can you swim?

Nope. I took swimming lessons as a little kid and for some reason it never stuck. I also have a vague memory of almost drowning in the community pool, so i'm sure there's some deep down fear or something.

Re: Can you swim?

I suck at swimming. Need to take lessons to refresh the skill. I learned when I was very young and much more bouyant.

I don't recall ever NOT being able to swim, but I was raised in Miami, barely a mile from the ocean.

I can, but the only method I learned was Patrick Duffy's "Man from Atlantis" style.

Re: Can you swim?

I know how to swim in that if I'm put in water I can get from point A to point B. I'm not very good at it though. I'm more of a "stand in the pool, pee in the water" kind of guy.

Re: Can you swim?

My skills are mediocre now. I can swim for my races but I've got no speed in it. Just enough to survive. Add in that I was drowning a few years back. I've been very uncomfortable having my head underwater.

Fucking amazing I was able to survive that incident. The moment I was in for a while and could feel my brain on fire, I immediately somehow was able to claw my way out. Feeling the water in my nostrils and ears just unnerves me now. I"m amazed I don't drain now in my races. I still get very uncomfortable, if not scared, being underwater. Since that event its like I just couldn't override it and my skills just get lost in it all.

I'd like to think this is the case with me. But I don't really want to put it to the test. And if I ever had to prove it, I would like for point A and point B to be really close together.

Re: Can you swim?

I took swimming lessons from a young age, and then swam almost every summer day until I was around 14. My wife, on the other hand, does not know how to swim.

Yes, but I don't really enjoy it. (The wife was on swim team in HS and still swims for exercise.)

Re: Can you swim?

Couldn't use the dive platforms or "deep end" if you couldn't swim back and forth across the "shallow end". That was motivation enough as a little one.
