Buying baby gifts

So I'm going back to my hometown, next week, to visit some friends and my mum. One of my friends has a baby now. A little girl. Apparently I've been made to be the unofficial crazy uncle to her. What the fuck do you buy a "15 month" old baby? Like I guess toys or whatever but I mean....what have you guys gotten for babies?

Like.... what's a good gift for a baby that isn't cheesy/generic?

Note: I hate it when they call babies by months instead of years (w/ months, if so wanted).

Re: Buying baby gifts

So this isn't for the kid's birthday or anything? Why would you bring anything? Maybe it's a custom I'm not used to, but when I've had to buy things for a child that age it was either before the kid was born for the shower or because of a 1st birthday. I didn't know you had to buy things for a family friend "just because" (especially since you're a guy).

Re: Buying baby gifts

1. Ask the mom. There might be something she knows the kid is lacking.

2. Just go to Target. They have a whole 3 and under isle.

3. A really good quality set of anything. Meaning, the kid may already have alphabet blocks. But how about a really nice set of high quality wooden ones?

Re: Buying baby gifts

Look into Hape or Melissa and Doug products. Good quality, usually wood, and the baby should get some good use out of it.

Do what I did when I was made unofficial crazy uncle of my friend's kid: go to the surplus store and buy some baby dolll arms and legs from the barrel o' baby doll parts and tell the kid they're to hide in the Christmas tree. Also, be sure to ask the mom and get something real in addition to that, so you're not literally the crazy uncle.

This. Also, buy gifts for age 3+. Buying for their exact age now will just ensure that they don't end up playing with it for very long, if at all.

Since scotch has already been mentioned, I would recommend weed or pills.

Every Target has a large baby section. A baby or swaddling blanket is always welcome.

I don't think any parent swaddles a 15 month old.
