Re: How's Geico car insurance?

I've been contemplating switching to them recently, actually, but haven't done it yet. I've been with Allstate for 4 years and have been less than impressed with my 3rd agent in as much time (first one retired, 2nd one that I was handed off to when she retired was awful, and the one I switched to is just as bad if not worse).

The rates I'm getting are pretty much in line with Geico, whereas everyone else is nearly $100 more a month. Not sure how that's the case.

Re: How's Geico car insurance?

I had them for a while before I got married. They were the lowest by far($50 or so a month) Never had to file a claim with them though, so I have no insight there.

Re: How's Geico car insurance?

I've used them for a bit over 2 years. So far everything has been smooth. Was involved in a hit and run right after getting a new car and the people I spoke to were pretty exceptional at handling things. I was impressed, to be honest.

Ducks or Cavemen. Your choice these days. Or a guy who likes to kill himself.

Or Geckos, or Pigs, or whatever else they come up with. Geico is a pretty schizophrenic company when it comes to advertising mascots.

Re: How's Geico car insurance?

I'm actually seriously considering a switch. I was recently in an accident that totaled my year old car and the experience with my company was pretty bad. Geico is my first choice... maybe State Farm 2nd. The guy who hit me had State Farm and I so much preferred dealing with them.

Re: How's Geico car insurance?

Ive been with state farm for 21 years. When we got our motorcycles a few years ago SF wanted almost 300 more a year than Geico. 21 years of cars, rental insurance, and house insurance for 10 years, and never used it. Still dont undertand why they wanted so much for the motorcycles, so went with Geico for the bikes at a cheaper price and better coverage numbers.

Re: How's Geico car insurance?

I've always wondered how a company with a 600 million annual advertising budget can offer the lowest rates. They shit up TV & major sports with their constant barrage of ads & naming rights. Who pays for that? State Farm, etc barely advertise.

I did call them once & they seemed to want me to help them pay for all that. So I stayed with Metlife.

Re: How's Geico car insurance?

I'd say Progressive and State Farm easily advertise nearly as much as Geico.

Discount Double Check!

Always make sure it's the coverage you want/need.

I think Geico is fine and is almost always the cheapest... at first. Then they usually increase rates later.

Re: How's Geico car insurance?

Auto Insurance is probably the most competitive insurance out there. Highly competitive. So it pays to shop around. However if one company is significantly cheaper than another, it could be one is about to change their rates. And it could be either way. The cheaper one could be about to raise rates, the more expensive about to lower.

Check with AM Best for financial ratings and your states department of insurance for complaints.

All I know is that Geico pig comes off like such a dick in all his commercials. What's the point of a mascot who's a complete douchebag?

There's one that airs on the radio where someone asks him if he could thank him in person for saving him money on his insurance and he pretty much says "fuck you."

The pig is a dick.

Re: How's Geico car insurance?

I'm so tired of seeing car insurance commercials I'm about ready to stab myself in the neck. Geico is the worst offender.

"Jake, from State Farm" is arguably the best commercial to air on TV in decades. The acting, comedic timing, and dialogue are far superior to most (if not all) modern sitcoms.

Say what you will, but you all seem to remember that the Geico commercials are for Geico. How often can you say that for any other popular commercial?

That said, shop around. Loyalty does not pay in the insurance business.

I hate insurance companies, but I have to say that switching to Geico lowered my rates by a good amount on both cars.

I'm glad I noticed this thread. I was about to post a similar topic. I've been with State Farm for as long as I've been driving. I just got my latest bill and the cost increase is alarming. Apparently there's been an usually large number of claims made in my state (I'm in Georgia), and the company is hoisting those costs right back to its customers (even the ones with perfect records) in order to maintain the profit margin. And that crap ... just pisses me off

So the bill is due in a month and now I'm looking around. So I'm curious to hear of how others are doing with their car insurance. In particular, those of you that have had to file claims. Because that's where the quality of an insurance company shows. It's easy for a company to offer lower rates. But that doesn't mean anything if they give you a hard time when you need to make a claim. Despite the high cost of State Farm, I'll say this for them: there was absolutely no trouble the two times I had to file a claim (one was for a fender-bender; the other was for a tree falling on my car while parked).
