Looking for a word...

not even sure it exists (although potentially ironic considering what I'm looking for ) that means 'something obvious but is frequently overlooked/forgotten'. Doesn't necessarily have to be English language.

TIA

Re: Looking for a word...

Not really what I'm looking for... the context is more of a "quote/lesson of the day" sort of thing. I mean I could just use "Obvious lesson of the day" but was hoping for something a little more flashy.

Re: Looking for a word...

I believe the Inuit people have something like fifty different words for 'snow.' So they've probably got at least a couple for this.

Would an idiom work? Like, "If it were a snake, it would've bitten me."

Re: Looking for a word...

There are precise words for this, I'm certain of it, but none is occurring to me at the moment. Blame my deteriorating memory.

Unheralded, latent, nakedly apparent, veiled, cloaked, glaring, self-evident, manifestly obvious, patently obvious, are a few more imperfect options for your sentence.

Re: Looking for a word...

How about axiomatic? I also can't think of an exact word meaning what you want... Latent is a pretty good one also.
