How many idiots does it take to change a lightbulb?

So my kitchen has this fixture, courtesy of Hampton Bay (which is apparently a Home Depot house brand):

And two of the bulbs have burnt out. The bulbs are flush against the fixture; supposedly, I'm supposed to use a "light bulb replacement tool" to extract them. Which is really a suction cup. In theory, I attach the suction cup to the bulb, pull, and the bulb is extracted. In practice, I attach the suction cup to the bulb, pull, and the suction cup comes off the bulb.

Anybody have any experience with a fixture like this? Any advice on what to do?

Re: How many idiots does it take to change a lightbulb?

This may not be of help, but I can relate.

Had a similar fixture. I had a dickens of a time trying to figure out how to remove the bulb. I was so afraid I'd break one of the lights off the way I was trying to twist and pull to get it out. I can't even explain what the trick was (and I've since moved from that particular house), but it eventually came out. I don't recall any such bulb replacement tool being an option or something I would have considered.

There's no 'twist' step? Can you lasso some twine around and pull maybe?

Moisten the bulb and/or suction cup for a better seal. Don't go crazy with the water tho (or kill the power, juuuuuuust in case)

Here's the guide to light bulb removal: http://www.homedepot.com/catalog/pdf...8c2b0d9a50.pdf

Take the suction cup tool, stick to bulb and gently pull out. Should be easy. If suction cup tool is not sticking strongly wet the rubber suction end and damp it dry before using.

Re: How many idiots does it take to change a lightbulb?

Google brought this up in a Home Depot forum.

OK, don't laugh - I can't figure out how to change a lightbulb in a track light fixture. It is a Hampton Bay (ED673ABZ).
It uses halogen bulbs. I can unscrew the collar at the end of the shade, but there is no room to grab the bulb and pull it out from the socket because of the shade around it. I've tried unscrewing the shade, but it doesn't budge. Help!
Perhaps some of the replies in that thread will be helpful.

Get the suction cup removal tool thing. I've got one and it came with a long pole as well for changing recessed lights that otherwise can't be reached without a large ladder (or above stairs). It actually works quite well.

Specialty bulbs like that serve no purpose other than to piss me off.

They're GU10s. You have to twist then pull.

The problem is, sometimes the base gets stuck to the bulb, and so when you twist, the base will break off the fixture and be forever stuck to the bulb.

Yes, twist and pull. Might have to push in slightly as you twist.

Re: How many idiots does it take to change a lightbulb?

I imagine fitting more than two idiots in a light bulb would be tricky. And they would need to be careful with the thrusting.

Re: How many idiots does it take to change a lightbulb?

Is there any gap at all between the bulb and the housing? How about using one of those silicone jar openers? They're pretty thin and may slip around the diameter of the bulb. Should provide a good non-slip grip.

Sorry to leave everyone hanging. None of these tricks have worked. I need to call the manufacturer and yell at them but I've been busy with other things.

In the other thread you said you were happier than ever. I see you conveniently forgot to mention the BS with the lightbulbs, though.

If we are in the dark, the suggestions obviously didn't work. If one of the suggestions worked, the lights would be back on.

Have you tried peeing in its bulb?
