Chicken golf, anyone?

920 California chickens killed with golf club
FRESNO, Calif. (AP) Authorities in central California are searching for those who broke into a Foster Farms chicken ranch and used a golf club to kill more than 900 birds.

Fresno County sheriff's officials said Tuesday that deputies arrived at the facility in Caruthers, less than 20 miles south of Fresno, on Sept. 20 and found hundreds of birds slaughtered.

Investigators say the suspects apparently pulled back a fence to gain access to a chicken shed. Once inside, investigators say, the suspects used a golf club, and possibly another similar type instrument, to slaughter 920 chickens.

Foster Farms says the attack appears to be random and is calling it "an unconscionable act of animal cruelty." The chicken producer is offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to an arrest and prosecution.
I bet it was PETA

OK, but why don't we do the same thing, but with gophers?

What's the issue? I thought that's how chicken club sandwiches are made.

Re: Chicken golf, anyone?

I seriously doubt killing 920 chickens with a golf club is more cruel than forcing said chickens to live in a space small enough for this to be easily accomplished.

I would say getting clubbed to death and probably not dying right away is pretty damn cruel compared to living in a pen that is cramped.

Sounds like they're pretty confident that it was fowl play.

Don't worry, the police will chicken to this tragedy.

This is not the first time this has occurred, it seems to happen every now and hen.

Probably. PETA relies on disinformation and trolling to get it's point across.

California teens arrested in 920 chicken deaths

FRESNO, Calif. (AP) Deputies have arrested four young men one adult and three juveniles suspected of breaking into a Foster Farms chicken ranch and killing more than 900 birds with a golf club in California.

Fresno County sheriff's officials acting on several tips Wednesday tracked down 18-year-old Gabriel Quintero of Riverdale. Also taken into custody were two 17-year-olds and a 15-year-old.

All have been booked on charges of burglary and felony cruelty to animals.

Fresno Sheriff's Department spokesman Christian Curtice said he cannot release information about what prompted the killing of the chickens. He didn't anticipate any more arrests and said he did not know if the suspects had attorneys.

Investigators say the suspects pulled back a fence on Sept. 20 to break into a barn south of Fresno. Once inside they beat 920 chickens to death with a golf club and possibly another blunt instrument, investigators said.

The suspects were caught by detectives from a special Fresno-based agriculture task force, a sheriff's unit established to investigate farming-related crimes in the nation's leading agra-business county, with $5 billion in annual revenues.

Not all the chickens at the facility were killed, said Foster Farms spokesman Ira Brill, noting the barns typically have several thousand chickens inside. He said Thursday that as a chicken producer certified by the American Humane Association, the company takes the incident seriously.

"This disturbs us all," Brill said. "It appears to be a very senseless act of animal cruelty."

The suspects were not employees or related to employees. The company is working with law enforcement to distribute a $5,000 reward.

The Animal Defense League also offered a $5,000 reward, and officials there said they would be in touch with the Fresno Sheriff's Department.
