Damaged my toe

So about a month ago I had a 50lb wooden pallet fall on my toe. Like the cornered edge just fell on it as a board broke in my hands as I was about to throw it. So all that weight just went down to that edge as it hit my toe. It hurt like a bitch. It hurt for a while and under the nail it went black a bit. About 4 days later... it didn't hurt. I could run and do whatever again without the pain. But since then it still has that blackened area with some red/blood in there. I thought it would go away but it's still there. It doesn't hurt. But it's still there.

I imagined that it would take a while because I'm always on my feet doing something. A lot of it is just running around town during my morning jogs or at the gym. But it doesn't hurt. So I just let it go thinking it's taking its time with healing.

Is this normal? To take this long to heal?

Here's a recent pic of it. Don't mind the current weird shape of my nail currently along with the bit of fresh blood to the left. I get it ingrown to the side so sometimes I need to clip it out to relieve the pain.

Dude, you should have gone to a foot doctor (podiatrist) or emergency room right after it happened!!! You should go now. I'm not kidding.

I can't believe you waited a month!

Re: Damaged my toe

I dropped a keg on my toe once and got blood pooled under the nail. I poked a hole in the nail and relieved the pressure and the pain went away. A few weeks later the toenail fell off and then grew back over time.

not sure where you are in that process

Blame-the-victim Response: You should have been wearing steel-toed shoes, dumbass!

Standard Response: Go see a doctor, dude. That shit is fucked up.

Re: Damaged my toe

Due to the potential of clotting and infection, I recommend you go to the doctor.

The big toe nail is weird though, I tore mine mostly loose a couple years back, took at least six months for a new one to grow in and completely force the old one off.

There is no pain. At all. There was in the first like 4 days or whatever but after that. My toe felt perfectly fine. Initially I couldn't walk normal or run but after that small period... back to normal sensations.

I visited my mum and just had to clear out 2 pallets. If I was at work I'd go Steel toe but I didn't expect to do any heavy lifting when I visited.

Reading up online it kind of seems like this takes a long time to heal but also seems like it could be worse. I don't have the pain though. There is no pain. The ones I've read with pain could look like mine but I don't have the pain. The nail isn't damaged from it. It's in working condition. I'm glad it didn't crack, that was my initial fear after it fell on my toe.

That sounds like it could be nerve death or something. I'd go see a doctor ASAP man.

I hear you. I'm the same way most of the time. That said, shit like that always seems to happen when someone is "just doing a one-off job" for someone. It sucks.

Re: Damaged my toe

Those things can take a long time to heal. On the other hand, your toe could be two days from needing an amputation. Good luck!

I had a toilet seat fall on me once. I have pictures of the horrific genitalia damage if anyone would like to see.

This

Happened to my thumb, you need to make a hole in the black area and releive the pressure, it will heal faster.

I used a Dremel to make the hole Some people use a needle, disinfect the area and tool first.

Re: Damaged my toe

When you say "relieve the pressure" you mean like the pain or the invisible pressure that is probably there cuz the nail is there over it?

Re: Damaged my toe

I have used a little drill bit to poke a hole in finger nails when the blood builds up under there.

Re: Damaged my toe

You need to go get that thing cleaned. I know it may not seem bad but I once saw a buddy almost have to have his cut off because of infection. He thought though a little alcohol and peroxide would be well enough but it got full of puss and turned all sots of nasty colors.
You could get staph if it isn't cleaned up and bandaged properly.

Re: Damaged my toe

I'm very uncomfortable with the idea of doing that. Soooo I just kind of drill into it a bit till I know I've reached the blood?

It bothers me that I might have to do that. Not cool with doing stuff like that to my body. Cuts of all shapes and sizes, I'll got all Predator on myself but drilling a bit into the nail bothers me.
