we either send people home immediately (typically the case for someone in sales or that deals directly with customers and could cause issues) or give them a period (typically 60-90 days) for them to transition their duties and such.. of course, you dont expect a lot of work from those employees during that time frame, and they will most likely spend their days job searching.. but just seems odd to take all the equipment and basically make it so they wouldnt work... might as well have just extended the severance package by another 60 days, unless its done for some finance/tax reasons.

Re: I think I'm getting laid off

I have a wife and stepson who are nearly impossible to wake up in the mornings. And I take the kids to school. I have been late to work 33 times in six months and was told that once more and I am fired.

Needless to say, I told my wife I would no longer take the kids to school and would be leaving at a specific time each day regardless of whether she was awake or not.

She kind of nodded as she continued playing solitaire on her phone.

My wife also doesn't do laundry, dishes, or any cleaning. She may be a bit lazy. But I'll be damned if I'm going to lose my job.

It should never had got to 33 times. Maybe ten tops before drastic measures would be taken.

When I got laid off from Hughes we were still employees for 60 days with no responsibilities and were supposed to go to work and look for a job, and use the resources they had to find you one. It was my first job, so never did find a new position and eventually moved to San Diego.

What the hell just happened in here?

Did Eddie Money just offer Cardiff Giant a job as a live-in nanny taking care of his worthless wife, teenage kids, and talking lizard?

Re: I think I'm getting laid off

Well just a quick update to the thread. I had a number of interviews (mostly phone and one in person) one with another company and one with my current company.

I was offered one of the positions I interviewed with at my current company and at a salary of about 12% more than my prior job. I'll be starting August 18th and carrying over all my accrued benefits etc.

It hasn't been the easiest couple of weeks but I know there are others who faced much tougher challenges finding a new position and were out of work much longer than I so I am very thrilled and consider myself very lucky to not only be back at my company but in a position making more.

Today is definitely a big sigh of relief.

It's tough out there, consider yourself fortunate.

Congrats

Plus basically 5 weeks of paid vacation that don't come out of his vacation balance. Sounds like a good deal to me.
