How do you say "2014"?

When referring to the year, how do you usually say "2014"? Do you usually say "Twenty Fourteen" or "Two Thousand Fourteen"?

Twenty Fourteen. Anything else is wrong.

How do you say the year "1914"? or "1814"? I think that should set the precedent for how you say 2014.

I refer to it as "three years before Chthulu devours us all", but that's just me.

Precedents are for 'Liberals'!

Once it passed 2009 it seems that it has fallen into just saying like we would those other dates which is quicker and works fine.

aught-fourteen!

Or, twenty-fourteen depending on my mood. Never two-thousand-fourteen, too cumbersome and formal. Some folks refer to 1914 as "nineteen-hundred-fourteen", or 1947 as "nineteen-hundred-forty-seven." Doesn't sound *too* bad.

I sometimes catch myself saying things like, "Back in oh-twelve. Er, I mean, twelve. ...Twenty twelve. ...So, two years ago..."

I've been saying two thousand fourteen and never thought of this. Now I'm going to have to actively begin using twenty fourteen.

My sect of the cult is working on making that happen in March 2015. Boy won't you look stupid then!

But people said 1909 as "Nineteen Oh-Nine", but didn't say 2009 as "Twenty Oh-Nine", did they?

Re: How do you say "2014"?

Well, we should be saying "Twenty Fourteen" by now, but I guess I still say "Two Thousand Fourteen" out of habit established by preceding years.

I'll tell you what I don't say - "Two Thousand AND Fourteen." Saying "and" in the year is a pet peeve of mine.

No, because it doesn't roll of the tongue as nicely as "Two thousand nine", but maybe that's just me.

I think most people say whatever is simplest. "Nineteen thousand nine" is not as simple as "Nineteen oh nine" and "Two thousand fourteen" isn't as simple as "Twenty fourteen".

It's also mathematically incorrect to throw an 'and' in there. :P

I catch myself saying it both ways actually.
